Singer make road going 911s with the same passion and attention to detail as a really good racing team. Look at it like that and the £500,000 soon gets used up. There is something about the stance and detail work of a Singer that is just sublime.

What model Alfa is this? Looks fantastic.

Giulia.
Weapon of choice for the Caribineri (traffic police). There is a long running joke about il caribineri in Italia, "Why do Il Caribineri have red stripes down the sides of their trousers? So they can find their pockets!"

Anyway, there are a few of these for sale on Ebay. Much cheaper than the 105 series.

you can argue about what these guys add or take away; argue about what they're doing to 964s (currently an endangered species); argue about the obscene price......but my god as car poooorn, there is nothing better!

if i won the lottery, singer would be my very first phone call. then i'd be straight on a plane to LA to start geeking out over the spec and placing my order....

Well all mags that have reviewed them have gone mad over them as drivers cars, Richard Meaden (EVO, Octane) absolutely adored it in his review, IIRC he pretty said it was perfect.

I think that is why people go mad over them, being pretty isn't enough to attract real petrol heads...

You could, but then, you know, you'd have a Cayman.

I'm not denying they are a great piece of kit, I am questioning whether people would actually purchase one, hence the hypothetical question, I know I wouldn't, I could think of stacks of cars I would put ahead of this in that situation.

Oddly I think the Singer Porsche is a step too far away from the original for me.

I came across this chap yesterday. Magnus Walker. I love what he does. Not so refined but uber cool.

I'm sure a lot of people have other cars above it, it wouldn't be my first choice ($500,000 would buy me a lovely Alfa Romeo Tipo 33/3 spider), but that's personal taste.

I think it depends on what you want in a car, you might just want something really really fast and capable, but it seems most people on PH seem to be a fan of older cars driving traits and it seems the Singer offers a lot classic appeal yet with 90s sports car pace. Plus I suppose the price is due to spec on the singer from around £230,000 to 300k, so there are cheaper singers available wink

Magnus who?

Seriously though, I do like the 'lifestyle' approach that Magnus has, but some of his modifications are questionable (some of the modified tail lights for example), and adding faux patina - a bit try hard and 'fashion' minded for me. A singer is a re-engineered 911, improved by modern technology and production methods, with a fastidious attention to detail. I admire both builders for their unique approach but I think Singer are in a completely different league.
Strange isn't it ? The Magnus Walker "thing" seems to have gathered momentum over the past couple of years. Personally his creations do nothing for me at all. Most of them could be (and have been) done by individuals on various forums Rennlist, Early 911S register and RGruppe, the majority of them are more "trick" too. In short, MW's stuff doesn't seem that special, yet he seems to have a huge amount of followers/ supporters.

On the other hand, The Singer is just so beautifully engineered, and the attention to detail so perfect, it makes anything Walker produces look amateur (but maybe that's the attraction of Walkers creations ?)
I think a lot of people find the price of the Singer borderline offensive. And I have to say, when I see quotes of $30,000 for their electrical loom, I can see why. I've no doubt the same loom could be produced in the UK using equally good (if not better) quality components for a third of the price, and if not a third, then half.

But I won't hear anything bad said against the guys at Singer, what they've produced is the perfect foil to the cr*p Porsche are currently producing - Panamera, Cayenne and most iterations of the 991 (Turbo S and GT3 excepted)

The Singer is so cool (and I suspect inoffensive to the average man in the street) and yet manages to combine the classic 911 look of yesteryear with a host of up to the minute technology.

Pretty much agree with all of that, the whole MW stuff just reminds me too much of those superdry clothes, you know with all the torn edges & faded prints put in.

The singer stuff though, bloody hell it's just something else & if I had the means, it would be top of my list smile

Exactly this

Singer = perfectionist artists

Walker = self inmportant 4rsehole (my opinoin only of course)

Justification?, you dont see videos knocking around on the web of dread locked 50 yr old singer mechanics waffling on about sod all for hours patting themselves on the back for being a bit ironic. There are plenty of very talented modders out there making their rides look optimum, you just dont get hours of them rammed down your throat. Could just be my misjudged view but I feel MW has had a little too much exposure of late.

Anyone seen my coat?

No need for your coat, I think you've summed up my feelings, albeit in a somewhat more blunt/succinct manner smile

My guess is that most of the lucky individuals who have stumped up (or will) £250-300K for a Singer have numerous other cars too, the Singer will merely be an addition to an already impressive collection, so the question "If you had to buy a car and you had the financial ability to buy one AND it be your only car" isn't a realistic scenario.

But as you ask. Yes, I probably would.

If nothing else the Singer puts two fingers up to the bean counters at Stuttgart and says, this is what you could have done (or for that matter, you could still do) 'cause lets face it, with all the technology and suppliers Porsche have at their disposal, they could set up a department in their restoration facility building just such a car. No doubt it would be very labour expensive, no doubt that most of the real craftsmen who used to work on the assembly line have long since gone too. But that aside, I'm sure there would be a good market for a £125K factory built Singer esque car . . . . .

If i was going to pay 300k on a 1960's Porsche recreation car it had better be real good looking or else i would feel like i've been ripped off or someone put their hand in my pocket, I don't think Porsche would have built a car like this, just not financially viable or makes sense especially reason d'etre of the car, an out an out sports car to win races on weekends and drive to work during the week, a real mans everyday sports car. Would i take this to the Ferarri FF or F40 at the same price i would think very long and hard and check my head. For me a car with leather in the engine compartment is a no no, but to park in the room as an art object for admiration of workmanship maybe...so beautiful as this Singer cars are (And I love Porsches, a number one before BMW M's and then 60's ferarri's in my book) if i could buy one i would weigh the thoughts before putting my hard earned down. ALPINA has the same ethos these guys are attempting (not belittling the work Singer does) but with more real world approach which makes more sense for me. But on saying that, as a thing of beauty or eye candi definitely "A1" workmanship and maximum respect to these creative geniuses.

I agree Singer are perfectionists , but at that price I would be scared to drive it, I would just look at it .

I would prefer this , it's a hell of a lot cheaper just as head turning .
