The main auction houses are indeed manufacturer focused, why wouldnt they be as that's where they get the volume.

I would suggest the OP visit a local auction site rather than a national group, that should see a better opportunity for a cheap car.
I cycle past the one in Depford to and from work...after checking them online I doubt i'd trust them to make it out of the yard!

As I suspected, buying price is irrelevant, finance is where they make the money, thanks I thought this might be the case and it's nice to know.
For the manufacturer it is, not for the dealer...

It is not the auction houses which do this, this happens on the manufacturer sales which are run by the manufacturers. BMW is another culprit. Most of the manufacturer sales are a waste of time for anyone other than franchised dealers.
So why wouldn't a manufacturer look after the dealers that spend millions of pounds on showrooms, demos, training, aftersales tooling that they must have? If they didn't look after them they'd have nobody to shift their new metal for them.

It's not rocket science is it? You look after your biggest customers, which sadly for you isn't the bloke in a duffel coat with a dog eared copy of last months Parkers Joke Book

So basically don't bother with the auctions!!

I called into Available Car in Cannock two weeks ago and they wouldn't move an inch on price, even though I pointed out that the front end had had a respray aswell as the door which to be fair on a 13k car needed to be better quality. And it didn't even come with 12 months MOT! I offered them 12K and they wouldn't budge on price BUT did try and get me to buy scotchguard ( 12 quid in Tesco and you can do it yourself they wanted £199.99) and lifeshine and a good few hundred quid!! I left there feeling disapointed as if you can't move on price then the girl handing out the car list's as you walk in might as well take the cash too, no point in having a salesman if you can't haggle !!!!
If his car was priced right which I assume it was or you woudn't have looked why would he reduce it a grand? if your house was up for sale and price matched correctly would you drop 10 or so percent, it sounds like a case of cutting your nose off mate

Were you trying to buy a car or a discount? The dealer advertised the amount of money he wanted and opened up that morning. You walked in based on that offer. I fail to see what he did wrong. He hasn't lost a sale, he'll sell to someone else, you've lost out on the car you went to see at the price advertised.

I went to see a car which the dealer said was "mint" had it of been mint then 13k would have been correct. Had the dealer fixed the paintwork with a decent respray instead of a poor one again I would have been happy, given that however he did not then I would have had to address this front end respray, hence a discount WAS in order for me to restore the looks of the car. It's a buyers meet, I'm in no hurry and these cars are only going one way in price and it's not up. Come January they have the traditional sales and 1 to 2k will be quickly removed from the sticker price!

As for he manufacture looking after the dealer....no. Manufacturers couldn't care less, the demand you by "special tools" which are overpriced, make you pay for THEIR sigs to put up on YOUR building and then fog you overpriced software to plug into their cars. I'm not a spring chicken but I've been about and now this is a regular thing. Audi even send around a mystery customer and if he finds dents on cars at the prestige dealership they fine you. My neighbour is the customer service manager at VW, he's also worked for Audi and this was a regular thing.

Right where shall I start:

1. In most cases manufacturers do not sell cars to the public directly, they need a network of dealerships to do that. It's a partnership.
2. Dealerships do not have to stick with the manufacturer - they are able to give notice and get out at any point. In reality this do not happen very often, as the benefits of having the sign above the door outweigh the disadvantages.
3. Audi do not send round mystery shoppers who fine you for having dents on used cars
4. The same applies to Volkswagen as well.

I can safely say that I shall not be reducing my prices at all. I wish I had a margin to enable to reduce the price of a car by 2k.

Well u can choose to believe or not, everyone has a choice and or opinion. The dent chap does exist, why would a customer service manager lie?
I've never paid sticker price in my life, not about to start now. 4 years ago Audi gave me £500 off and free delivery on a nice a4 tdi. 7 years I got £400 quid off and free delivery on a Golf 4 motion from a vw dealer. Discounts are there, if I don't get one I walk away...simples. The market is full of cars, dealers everywhere, and it's a buyers market, if one dealer don't want my cash, there are plenty that do. I never part e though, always sell the old car privately which helps.

Helps how??? You deny the dealer a second profit so he gives you less discount??? And you only buy from dealers who ramp up extra profit so that they can give you a "deal"?! You,my friend, are getting mugged off every time you buy.

£400 and £500 is nothing like the £2,000 figure you're bandying around.

Also, we don't have 'sticker' price in the UK.

It's described as being either the 'screen' or 'asking' price.

If you're happy to walk away from the cheapest variant of a specific model for sale because you can't get a discount that's your prerogative.

Nose and face.

I think manufacturers have effectively become banks that just happen to make cars that people need finance for!
