As i previously posted but didn't mention, when the head gasket went on the ex's 45 the liners had also dropped hence the garage advising get rid of quick.
Also workmate had HGF twice on his Land Rover Freelander and mates 25 had HGF as well.
Was this not because of an undersized/inadequate cooling and oil system ?
Iirc the point was it was a low capacity cooling system to allow quicker warm ups for greater efficiency. But of course more susceptible to low coolant. Also workmate had HGF twice on his Land Rover Freelander and mates 25 had HGF as well.

How can people dispute the K series when you can get 190bhp without VVC from them, bore out to 2l like they did for BTCC, rev to 8k, used in caterhams ( and would have continued to be if availability was there ).
Ringing one to 7k regularly is a true joy.
Im sorry but, ringing a 4 cylinder engine is not a joy. Ringing a 6, 8, 10, 12 or 16. Now thats joy.Ringing one to 7k regularly is a true joy.

I never tire of taking my wifes MG to the 7200rpm limit...

The 75/ZT is quite a handsome thing, but had Rover survived then this was waiting in the wings, and I happen to think it looks gorgeous....
That interior is sheer porn - that could have been yours for £2995 last week in the AutoTrader had they built it.I do like 75's and an Estate would be a good tram.
I must admit I have no love of inline four-cylinder engines of any description. They don't make a nice noise, they just buzz and vibrate nastily. Sixes (preferably inline) and twelves are the best. V8s aren't too nice usually either. Had a chance to rev out my 535i to the redline yesterday - cor, what a horrible antisocial racket! Sounds like a spin dryer full of spanners - doesn't half go, though...

Completely agree on all counts. Never really understood the love of V8s, they always sound pretty nasty to me compared to a 6 or 12.dme123 said:

Completely agree on all counts. Never really understood the love of V8s, they always sound pretty nasty to me compared to a 6 or 12.Interestingly though I thought I heard the BMW M4 was an inline 6? There was a urine-yellow one driving like an utter knob through Dundee recently and my wife and I agreed that it sounded completely st from the outside.

I agree too. I currently have 2 V6s and 2 V8s. The 6s sound much nicer. An inline 6 can make a lovely noise. It's a shame V12s are usually found in rafts if not quite at supercar level.

The new M4 is a straight six but turbo - turbos do tend to change the noise unfortunately.Interestingly though I thought I heard the BMW M4 was an inline 6? All this depends on the car they are attached to. I would hate my Caterham with anything but a 4cylinfer engine. Same goes for Integra R I used to own. A six is fine if in the right application, however it is just one element of the dynamic make up of a car.
The K is a light, revvy and very characterful engine. And I owned 2 at the same time as when I had that Honda.

Driven the neighbors 4 cylinder locost quite a few times. The K is a light, revvy and very characterful engine. And I owned 2 at the same time as when I had that Honda.
It's fun, but the engine really is the weak point.
Flat and farty, not particularly pleasant, especially when proceeding through town and you get the echoes off the buildings. Just horrible.

What engine is it though? An old crossflow or Pintosaurus? It's fun, but the engine really is the weak point.

Was never going to set the world on fire admittedly, but it's the sound and harshness which I find unpleasant.
BMW make a very compact 1649cc naturally-aspirated water-cooled four-stroke straight-six making 158bhp @ 7500rpm, 129lbft @ 5000rpm... 72 mm × 67.5 mm bore/stroke, 12.2:1 compression ratio... anyone else think it would be perfect in a small, light sports car? Alas, they only put it in motorbikes... I can't find an engine weight, but the whole bike weighs about 320kg sopping wet...
