Time to pick up today's Daily Mail and burn some serious amounts of fossil fuel.
You sound incredibly masculine. I'm very envious.

So, given that DiCaprio is probably onboard for free or for payment to help promote the race series do we think it will help put bums in seats to watch it?

I have to say that I think it will be an interesting event to watch in London and if I know someone with an office on the route then I'll definitely go and watch it.

The Tesla 85 kwH at today prices is about $30000.

Tesla is charging $12000 for the pre-paid battery option which is based on their prediction of what the future cost to change will be in 8+ years time.

Of course, Tesla has a vested interest in favourable predictions so using their data to try and set an industry standard battery replacement cost is problematic.

Also, Tesla has a quick swop, modular battery replacement strategy, the i3 doesn’t. Battery pack and control module standardisation is also a big industry concern and will keep battery replacement cost high.

EV manufacturers are being deliberately guarded over these issues..... because they know it is a major and expensive issue downstream and would rather not talk about it.

Unfortunately for them, it’s already hammering residuals and you may see the 8+ year old i3, ZOE, Leaf etc all being worthless.
I was going to say all sorts of stuff about Telsa battery prices and i3 battery swaps, but as this is a thread about Di Caprios Forumla -E racing team I decided to leave it there.

You are free to go on making false claims at a tangent to what the thread is about.

Given your almost Xenophobic dislike of EVs I decided you are either :
1) an EV industry insider wanting to other people to post support for the EV industry by making false claims you know will be refuted by people interested in electric cars and or racing.
2) An oil industry insider / investor who sees electric cars as a threat and want to try and rubbish them.
3) A troll
4) Someone who doesn't like to be wrong and will argue for the sake of it.

Just look at Telsa sales figures, BMW pre orders, and the difference in price between Telsa 60kWh and 85kWh cars and you can work out all the numbers means EVs are coming. If they end up worth nothing at least you won't have also spent £20,000 in Fuel Duty (sorry Fuel) along with all that depsreication. Total Cost of Ownership.

My final point is that none of this matters. People don't buy cars for economic reasons or fuel consumption figures or whatever. Peoples decision making is done based on emotion. They justify a purchase using stats once a decision has been made.

Does that mean we can talk about 4wd and torque vectoring and all the other silly stuff an EV could do?

Oh no they can't.
All that technology will cost too much and will break down and need replacing after 8 years. ;-)

Let's hope so. My main concern with Formula E is that it is too conservative and apes the format of ICE single seaters. If they went the whole hog with 4WD, torque vectoring, active aero etc. etc. these things could be awesomely fast around a street circuit.

And think of how spectacular the dounuts could be with 4 wheels with independent speed control

I'd vomit for a week

I think the main thing it will do is bring a whole new crowd along for the spectacle.

Take You typical summer event like the marathon and there's a lot of people there who wouldn't normally go and watch any spectator sports. Watching a free 10s of thousands of people run past can't actually be that exciting. But it's all the other stuff going on that adds up to make the whole event.

I'm sure the formula e well do the same. All round the circuit will be not just bmw / toyota selling EVs but anything from hot dogs to African safaris.

In sure from time to time people Will be tempted to peer over the armco at the cars going past.

Hopefully should be good racing iirc the cars are 1 of 2 types in year 1, with more prototype stuff expected next year.

I think you are right. I think that fundamentally it will be a tourist attraction like all other London events. It's not going to be die hard Motorsport fans traveling to London but crowds mostly made up of people who happen to be in London at that time, or near by.

Lots of kids will see Motorsport for the first time and some will become future PHers.

I can't see this migrating to proper circuits and filling seats but then most normal events don't fill the seats either. I struggle to see it making good tv either. They will need an unnatural level of tits and arse to get eyeballs on it. Maybe support races but I think that this is really about showing the real motoring side of EVs in major urban environments and for me it is a pleasing sign that the yogurt weavers are being pushed out of this area.
