Has OP even looked at the table? Their units sold are quite a bit lower than most others other than premium brands... And then the price of the premium cars will surely make up for the lack of sales.

Interesting.

Dacia are a relative new entrant to the market. Look at the percentage change column. 31% up from Nov '12 to '13. 21% up '12 to '13.

They've got the biggest percentage jump from the previous year.

Yeah, but they're seeing massive increases. They'll continue to pinch market share I think unless there's other options at the same price (which there isn't really at the moment). Go to France and they're EVERYWHERE.

I have read the table yes! I think it's pretty good going to out sell honda and Mazda combined selling what is essentially a bargain basement car.

Other good performers were jaguar land rover.

It reminds me of when Daewoo launched in the UK in April 1995, the target was for 1% market share by 2000, they achieved 5% in the first year and held it. It wasn't enough though with the Korean economy going tits up in 1997, restructuring and finally abandoning the wholly owned sales outlet (factory shop if you like) operation in the UK and then franchising under GM. by 2001 it was all over. I think Dacia are here to stay though.

Dacia saved Renault from bancruptcy 2-3 years ago.
In my opinion it is the only new car that is actually worth its money. Anything else is overpriced.
Don't agree? Why are BMW's, Mercs VW's etc.. alle 20-30% cheaper in the US than in Germany (where they are built)?
Has nothing to do with taxes, as some aquaintances that work for the above mentioned companies said, cars are more expensive in Europe than in the US, because the people will pay it! The market has been "educated" to pay 40tsd €uros for a Passat.

Difficult to compare models sometimes. But:

BMW 528i Luxury Line $55,675 in the USA
BMW 528i Luxury Line £32,780 in the UK (approx $53,750 at today's rate).

Not much in it.

Nissan/Renault/Dacia with a combined 13% Market share is pretty decent. I expect some people will be getting a pat on the back.

The stand out statistic from that is how dominant the VW Group is these days! More than 25% of the total market is seriously impressive. That figure is closer to 20% for UK only.

Where did you get those figures from? The 528i Auto Luxury has a UK OTR price of £39,335 currently which translates to $64,458 - so they are certainly cheaper in the States. The difference is less than it used to be though, I remember a few years ago a Mk5 Golf GTI retailing at £20k over here could be had for $20k over there which was a huge saving!

Some interesting figures.

60,000 smart cars is surprising- one model, selling more then Alfa romeo.

Just 24,000 jaguars.
More audis sold then Bmw or Citroen
Chevrolet sold 130,000 and Gm are looking to drop the brand? Almot as many as MINI and more then JLR.

USA Price $55,675 + Sales Tax.
UK Price £32,795 + Sales Tax.

You are not comparing like with like. The fact that in the USA prices are always quoted exclusive of sales tax (and their sales tax is usually less than ours) and UK prices are quoted inclusive is not BMW's issue. As far as BMW are concerned they are the prices they are selling the car for.

Wouldn't the US price still need taxes added on?

As the UK just has the same VAT and other bits the same, it tends to be quoted with taxes, but US taxes can vary state to state so they often list a pre sales tax figure instead.

How things change. Back in the mid 80's I used to work in the UK import centre for Dacia, then it was pronounced Daiseea !! Every car and I mean every car had to be rebuilt before they went out to the dealers , they were the biggest piles of st you could imagine, nothing worked, nothing fitted. Every one who worked on them could never understand why on earth they were imported to this country.
Forward 20 odd years, its spelt the same but now pronounced Datcha and it's taking the world by storm!
I'm now waiting for the return of the Zastava or Yugo as they were known laugh
