So had to park up in Leighton Buzzard town center at the weekend. Wasn't sure how long I would be so got a three hour P+D ticket. Anyway, only used just under an hour in the end. As I got back to the car noticed someone looking for a space, waved him down as he came past me and gave him my ticket telling him it has just over 2 hours left on it. Guy thanked me and asked me how much I wanted for it? Told him nothing wished him a Happy Christmas and pulled out my space so he could park up!

I remember this used to be fairly common when I was younger and will always hand over a pay and display ticket that has anything useful left on it but he looked shocked that someone handed him some free parking.

Am I the only one who does this?

Not at all, I do the same....

Getting less common as some machines around our way require you to put in your reg now.

I always hand over if there is something useful left on the ticket.

Kiving on the Isle of Wight means there are parking fees everywhere....

Yes I've done it in the past and would do it again and have had it done to me.

Always used to, now the machines make you enter your reg so you can't

I do all the time, in fact I get annoyed if I can't find someone to give it too.

Never had one given to me though.

I do it all the time and I had someone offer me a ticket the other day but the parking companies do get funny about it. As far as I'm concerned you've bought time in that car park and its up to you how you use it

I have both given and received over the years! However as mentioned,I think that most councils have clocked onto this and the new era of machines make you type in all or part of your reg.

Yes. And I always put 000000 in as my reg number, let them try and 'do me' for having a reg on the ticket that's impossible.

Glad to hear it isn't just me then! Luckily not many P+D machines require reg numbers around here so random acts of kindness can exist.. Didn't local authorities just publish millions of pounds in profits from parking fees?

No reg numbers here, there are more and more pay later depending on time car parks, but the trick used to be if you wanted to gift your ticket you stuck it to the machine so someone else could use it

Yes and it stinks! If the space is paid for 2 hours & you leave after an hour whats wrong with passing on the ticket? But oh no, greedy councils want more!! This is something that really boils my piss!! bds!!

Just proves that the Nazis were never defeated in WW2, they were simply re-employed in local councils & Post Offices!!!

In Lichfield the council upgraded all their machines to require the middle two digits of the number plate, genius given all the cars registered in that 6 month period will have the same numbers.

I'll always pass the ticket on if I can, or leave it stuck to the machine if there's no one around.

I've always done this when possible although I believe it's against the rules and you could actually get in trouble for giving away the ticket you paid for! I'm sure some legal bods will be on soon to tell me I'm talking b0110x.

You would be "done" for not having a valid ticket. Shirley?

Same here. As far as I'm concerned I paid for a space for 2 hours. If I want to use an hour for my car and an hour for my 'friend', then I will.

Stuff the greedy local council, they seem to have very little time for my wants and needs, so I'll respond in kind whenever I can.
