Well, I had missed it! Can't have sold many. I've never seen one with that one (Wiki: A 2.0 litre petrol engine from the Rover stable was briefly available in a model known as the 2.0 L Mpi I4. This was intended to attract fleet managers, since UK (and also Italian) tax laws benefited vehicles under two litres. A combination of changes in taxation and the engine being underpowered for such a heavy vehicle led to the demise of this engine, despite the kudos of being the engine fitted to several Discoveries supplied to the British Royal family, most notably driven by Prince Philip around Windsor Great Park, in his position as Park Ranger of the park)

What's interesting, though, is that 2.0 L Mpi (136bhp) engine has more BHP than the 200tdi (111 BHP) that was the normal Disco 1 engine (but, I suspect, a lot less torque)

The 200tdi is nothingbto shout about, especially in automatic guise...Jesus that was slow.

It was a powerhouse compared with the VM in the rangerover and then the BMW diesel in the P38

Had a S80 1.6d Drive Auto on hire for a week, not as lame as you might think.

No Rocketship but ok.

That is impressive then, driven the 1.6d in a C4 (same engine?) and although the 90bhp version it was rather....sedate....

You've missed something, there was one. There was even a proposed 1.8l version due to some quirk of taxation, but as it got overtaken by glaciers, it never reached production.

Interesting, would that have been a K-series or a Honda engine?

Thus I think that is the least suitable engine ever fitted to a car.
Different question. Possibly worth exploring.

195lb/ft from the 200Tdi. They went quite well if you doubled the boost, fitted a massive intercooler & turned the fueling up hehe

I Know, I have a 300 tdi Defender with a massive intercooler, bigger turbo and tweaked fuel pump!

K series, I think. To do with a company car tax break at 1,800 cc, late 1980s or so. They decided the 1.8 was just too weedy for 2 tons of 4x4.

In the 60's Simca in France put the 1500cc "Rush"(!) engine from the Aronde (which I think started life as an under licence Fiat) into a huge body they inherited from Ford France and which was designed -and fitted- with versions (including 2,2 litre?) of the ubiquitous Ford V8 sidevalve and called after Chateaux (Chambord, Versailles etc)by Simca.(Pompous, Moi??)
All Simcas were sold to the British forces in Germany at rock bottom prices, but these Simca Fords were real slugs (Maybe 55bhp & a LOT of sheet metal!) Didn't stop them rusting away though!

A long time ago (over 20 years) there was an e34 520i in my household. I was just a kid and it was great to be seen in but I knew it was horribly underpowered. It was not the 24v, it was the 12v ... And as if that's not bad enough, it was an automatic too!

Sounded great but 129bhp in a 1500kg car is not a good idea

I once drove an Audi A6 1.9 TDI (90bhp auto) from Bristol to Coventry on the Fosse Way. It was important to maintain momentum.
