520d auto.

At 60 to 70 mpg on the motorway it will do between 55 and 60mpg (true, not trip computer) however I tend to drive a bit faster....

In the real world with stop/start, cross country and cold starts, I get between 42 and 45mpg

Edit: oops, just read that you asked for PETROL turbos, sorry.

I get 25-29mpg from a Forester 2.0 XT auto but that's without any urban crawling.

Depends if the engine is 'rev happy' or not.

I worked out things are relatively equal between my VW Passat B5 1.9 TDi and BMW M6 5.0

Passat does 50mpg on the motorway

M6 does 20mpg

The BMW has an engine which is 2.5 times bigger and has 2.5 times the thirst.

Therefore, if my Passat had a 5.0 diesel engine....the thirst would be the same as the M6.

See....man maths....it's the only way you can justify certain guilty pleasures in life!

My RS Megane 265 has averaged 26 - 27 mpg over the last 3000 miles, the vast majority is motorway commuting. I think if I eased back a bit I might scrape it above 30 mpg! A long way from the official figures from Renault!

I'm looking for a practical executive car. 3/5 Series, C/E Class, A5, XF etc. I'll be doing between 15k and 20k per year so I'm in that grey area where there isn't much difference in running costs between petrol and diesel. Could those of you with 2 litre petrol turbos tell me what mpg I can realistically expect? Most of these miles will be at 60-70mph.
I think the XF is a 3 or 5 litre supercharged, you won't get a 2 litre.

That's what the official figures say.

Do you really think people get a bazillion mpg from their DERVs? hehe

It's no different, all things being equal.
Well yes, but that makes them the same as the two litre turbos. I thought you were saying they were 10mpg better. hehe

Best I have seen in my 330i is 38 mpg on a steady long run & mid to high 20`s around town seems the norm & it is better on fuel than the 2 litre petrol turbo Audi TTS we have aswell, turbos do like a drink if you enjoy the throttle too much.

My old stage 1 tuned 200sx loved the juice too but its like with any car they never make the real world fuel consumption claims in my experience.

I run my Audi S4 (2.7 V6 Twin Turbo PETROL awd) daily.

Real world MPG is an interesting topic.
Commuting (A pleasurable 40mins a day of flowing rural roads with little/no traffic) costs me the same ££'s in fuel as it did when I was running the Volvo S60 D5 (2.3 5cyl turbo DIESEL fwd)...same driving style, same route, same roads.

Say what you like about that, I'm half Scots so my wallet doesn't lie tongue out

I had the later 330i for two days, the 272bhp version with direct injection.
Over the 2 days I did just a smidge under 500 miles before I filled it up again and it had averaged 38mpg, the 335i I had at the time would have done 33mpg doing the same journey, the 535d before that 34mpg. The later 330i is very good.

Someone has just gone from a V8 M3 to a 328i on the BMW section, ask how he is getting on, I reckon it is so much more car than the 320d.

I was also lent a new A3 with the 2.0tdi engine, I did a 90 mile round trip and it returned 48mpg, the follwoing Sunday I was lent the 1.4tfsi, did the same trip and it returned.......48mpg.
The 1.4tfsi was so, so, so much nicer to drive all round, lighter, much nicer clutch and gearbox, and although I hate manuals I would have ticked the manual box. Why anyone would choose the diesel I don't know, obviously never tried them both.

These figures for the normally aspirated sixes make the trend towards turbos for "economy" reasons even more annoying. banghead

Lightly tuned Megane R26. 25 - 33mpg since I've had it. That's are fair mix of driving and the figure changes most when I decide I want to enjoy the car.
