I run a 2006 Octavia VRS on 17 inch Zenith alloys. I don't have space for two sets of wheels so I swap the tyres over every 6 months and use the 17 inch alloys in winter too.

Michelin Alpin A4's work exceptionally well for me. Interestingly the ride is a little better on winter tyres than on summer tyres I use (currently ContiSport 4's)

Conti don't use 4 in any of their models smile

Mine are shot so I am leaving them on - 60 v 45 height. The winters are much better. Happy days :-)

Should last until ... Errr... Next winter. hehe
So much for leaving them on over summer - 30c days have taken their toll ... (And the tracking is fine)

2008 Octavia Vrs with 18'' alloys
Tyres need changing soon so I'm tempted to get smaller steel wheels & winters as it's that time coming up.
Any recommendations for a compatable wheel/tyre combo please?
Hopefully will reduce tyre roar which comes as standard...
I bought 16" mkV Golf alloys when I had mine. There are quite a lot available so it was only £100 for a set of 4 in OK condition.

I had Nokian WRG2s which were great in snow but would spin up hilariously easily on damp roads.

Another vote for Alpin 4. Have you tried running through the summer?

Looking at that wear pattern, it would have been no different for a summer tyre.

The tracking might be fine, but that's down to geo / pressures, not the fact it's a winter tyre.

On the plus side, you get to fit a new set on the way into the winter season smile

Definitely not the tracking (done recently) and pressures, but could be the geo for front and rear. However I've put the summers on now and the wear looks even. I suspect the winters at 30c are more prone to wear if the geo is slightly out than the summers.

I'll get the geo completely redone once I've renewed the winters thumbup

He'd need a set of chains to get out of that!

Less (well, none...) throttle and some gentle back and forth would have got him further.

Just ordered my nankang snow sv2 for the primera last night Brit the process jump again.

They have been awesome in deep winter and I left then on all summer this year without dying.

200 notes and I'm covered for a year so this may become a better strategy for me since I don't push my cars hard, not that you can particularly push a p12 auto hard.

So on my newly purchased car there are 4 budgets and I have 4 decent matching winters......

When can I swap over theoretically?
It depends how bad the budgets are. Personally I'd wait until we were seeing regular sub 3c at commuting times, usually around the start of November, but if the budgets start proving to be an issue, and the winters are a premium winter, you might be better swapping earlier.

Not now though.

x2 amazing how some people think brute force overcomes problems, lucky they did not break something on the car like burn out the clutch or something

Thanks to an annoyingly placed screw yesterday I'm now on 3 Sportcontact 5s and 1 WinterContact TS850. Clearly I'm going to die in a massive fireball before I get the chance to visit a tyre place for a repair. biggrin

Tyreleader... Anyone know if you make a package with rims and tyres....Is mounting the tyre on the rim included?

Following on from a couple of good comments on here, I've looked at Alpin 4 as a good winter tyre but Bridgestone A001 were recommended also as more of an all year round tyre, but looking they are only available in a 55 profile, I'm looking for 205 x 60 x R16, H rating and a 92V for a Suzuki SX4 4 GRip.
Have used Toyo Snoprox in the past and thay are great in snow but was looking for more something to leave on all year. She only does around 9k miles a year BTW.

Well I can recommend mytyres, ordered Tuesday, delivered Friday. Super efficient service with tracking. So the wheels were fitted up and balanced, freighted from Germany, and at my dealers in 4 days. Top stuff.
