Morning all,

I was given an experience with Supercar Scotland (to do in the summer) for Christmas and would like to decide which cars to go for. I emailed the company to establish exactly what was on offer (inc transmissions) and have been told I can choose any two of the following:

Ferrari F430 - auto/paddleshift
Lamborghini Gallardo - auto/paddleshift
Aston Martin V8 Vantage - auto/paddleshift
Porsche 911 Turbo (997 I think) - Auto/triptronic
Audi R8 - manual
Mustang GT - manual
GTR - auto/paddleshift

Quite a mouthwatering list for me given the quickest car I've ever driven is my 240bhp Impreza Turbo! laugh Now, I have been in a 4.3 litre Vantage before and didn't think it was THAT quick so have discounted it as well as the Mustang. Whilst a manual is appealing, the Audi doesn't really light fires under me but I might consider it. I'm assuming its the V8 though not certain.

The Gallardo and F430 seem the obvious choices however I can't help but want to experience the ballistic acceleration of the GTR or the 911 Turbo! As I'm sure they are both quicker than the Italian offerings? I think the best choice is:

1. F430 OR Gallardo
2. GTR OR 911 Turbo

I would really appreciate some guidance from you good people of PH in deciding which to go for! biggrin

430 or Gallardo
I'd go for 430 if on a track, Gallardo if open road

Was that the Supercar Scotland one at Crail?

It seems like an easy decision if you've never driven anything exotic...F430 and Gallardo, surely they are the default choice to see what all the fuss is about.

As a heads up, they probably wont let you thrash them as they will almost certainly have to adhere to the noise limits.

Apparently you can drive them hard as you like and spin the wheels off the line etc...not sure what to believe!

No, ran at Prestwold hall. Track wasn't great but couldn't fault the instructors or car. Used paddle shift and encouraged you to use all of the revs! Was quite a wet day so the GTR suited it perfectly.

My brother has the same problem. He got the experience tickets for Christmas as asked me. He wants to do the DB9 even know there's probably better machines to drive. He's a massive Aston fan so fair enough. A lad who used to work for me did a day and he was very dissapointed with the Lambo. I think that had a lot to do with the instructor who was very nannying and kept telling him to ease off, etc. He said the guy in the Ferrari was goading him on to push it more!

In all honesty, all of the cars will be an occasion and I'd pick the ones that you like the most rather than worrying about which one is more focussed on track.

Enjoy the day.

I did similar at the prodrive circuit and they thoroughly encouraged you to push the cars and yourself to the limit which was very surprising.

The 430 and Gallardo all day long for me, it's what these days are about. 911 to clinical to be fun tbh (I had 996 turbo and 360 myself, 360 was much more an event)

I've got one of these for Christmas as well and was considering the Prodrive Circuit. Is it a good venue???

Is this at Knockhill? Or at the Grampian Transport Museum at Alford? Or somewhere else?

Lovely car, I drove a manual V8 Vantage at Alford last year. Shame it was absolutely soaking wet, as we weren't really allowed to push the cars. That, and the track is tiny frown

Drove a V8-powered R8 at Alford last year too. Utterly mental car; stomp the pedal to the floor and it will absolutely throw you back in your seat. Really enjoyed driving that one. Worked better in the wet than the Aston, but I guess 4WD does that.

Gallardo, for me, but the F430 made a stupidly good sound, made me grin from ear to ear every time it razzed past smile

GTR, I think, but it depends on your opinion of Porsches.

I know the guy behind SS and he says everyone wants the Ferrari or Lambo but ends up liking the Audi best as it's still fast but easier to drive.

I can safely say he won't encourage anyone to thrash his cars, light up tyres etc. Bellend wannabes will not be tolerated.

Hardly bellend wannabes though is it? The cars are created to be driven in a certain way, and that way isn't changing gears at 3000rpm and slowly turning round corners. I know it's a different scale but my mx-5 loves nothing more than to be "thrashed". Not because I'm a boy racer or anything, just because that's where the car feels best in the high revs.

If I went to an experience day and wasn't given the chance to have the car screaming before I changed gears then I'd be very disappointed. Things like lighting up the tyres doesn't really do it for me though, I can understand why he doesn't want people to be doing that.

Well he might want to have a word with his wee sales guy in Union Square Shopping centre in Aberdeen then! laugh

I am not a bellend and would drive the cars as if they were my own.
