Supercar Experience...what to drive?!
Discussion
I enjoyed many of these brief track experiences driving supercars, mostly here in Italy, and they often felt very different even driving same cars depending how many laps you had, track type, car conditions, chance to push or not, etc. But the first time driving a F430 or a Gallardo are such an event anyway that I suggest you that two. On the road the manual R8 is so special that I hired it twice for a weekend (and almost bought one) but on track you can easily enjoy the top end and sound of the Gallardo and the F430.
in my oppinion, the 911turbo and gtr arent too far out of reach for someone to buy anyway, you can pick them up for £20-40k (for an 996 and early gtr anyway), i dont see them as exotic cars as such, though without a doubt they are both very good cars!
This should be something that you will never get the chance to drive again
I would go for 430 and gallardo, possibly the r8 too but that would be a 3rd choice
i'll probably get attacked now but nevermind

I appreciate what you are saying and I agree but I'm only 23 so theoretically if I decide I like the Gallardo I bloody well will own one at some point! This should be something that you will never get the chance to drive again

The Gallardo had a much more linear power delivery and, while quick, didn't have the same 'rush' as the Ferrari as you approached the red line. The 997 was also very quick, and you got that turbo shove in the back, but it felt much more like an every day car than the others and less special for it.

Hardly bellend wannabes though is it? The cars are created to be driven in a certain way,
I wasn't calling anyone a bellend, but you can imagine some of the cretins who turn up thinking they're the next Vettel because they've done a ton in a Clio and spunked a few quid on an experience. There's a line between using the cars potential and driving like a dick. All I'm saying is it's up to them to decide on where the line is. Not the wannabe driving god spouting about £150 and limits of grip etc.

I've got one of these for Christmas as well and was considering the Prodrive Circuit. Is it a good venue???[/quote
It was my first time driving on a track so not sure how experienced you are really but obviously I found it very fun. Massive long straight and a nice few flowing corners thrown in that you are encouraged to take full blast getting very tight to the cones. Honestly didn't think they'd be like that but it was more like they were teaching me how to drive fast, telling where to break etc to go faster - it was fantastic in all.
4x4 experience at the end is worth a trip for a laugh too.

F430 and Gallardo are the most exciting there.
R8 is a fantastic drive but doesnt feel quite as special as the Lambo. Nowhere near as fast or loud either.
Vantage is a waste of time.
GTR, amazing car but not too far out of reach.
Same with 911.
Go for the Italians.
I think your right to leave the vantage, it made a great noise and was an experience but when the list offered is exciting I would go for something else. The 430 would be my top choice, but I would not rule out the R8 completely. It does not feel as rapid but I really enjoyed using the H gate manual box, great feel and sound.
Last time I had the choice I ended up going with the Caterham they had running and I dont regret it. If it is a short experience they want to make sure you know your limits and often wont let you explore the car at all. Not to the extent of driving it like you stole it but changing at 4-5k rpm and not gaining to much speed (a friend did an R8 experience and was not allowed to break 70mph on track). However I found they let you let the caterham rev out and the actual experience of speed and control was far more exciting than the R8 or Aston.
I did my supercar experiences a few years ago at thruxton and they are not like some of the horror stories, you should be fine with most well reviewed experience companies.

At the end the guy asked what I thought, and I said " could not and would not recommend to anyone"

Bottom line....Mrs. bought me one for my birthday a few years ago. At that time the Lamborghini was a Murci, but you never got anywhere near revving it out. 5000 rpm tops. Always at least one gear too high.

Bet that went down like a hungry rent boy! At the end the guy asked what I thought, and I said " could not and would not recommend to anyone "
