Hello,

I have some questions about the transferring of my private plate and was looking for some advice if possible, I have phoned the dealer who are sorting this out and am awaiting their response but thought somebody might be able to give me some advice in the meantime.

Around two weeks ago I purchased a used car from a main dealer and then said that they would handle everything regarding changing my private from my trade in to my new car, I thought at the time this seemed like the best option as they didn’t even want to charge me the £80.

Yesterday I received the V5 for my new car with my private plate on so obviously the transfer has went through, but I am slightly confused as to what happens next, from looking on the DVLA website it states….

If your application is approved, you’ll receive:

a confirmation letter to advise the replacement registration number
new tax discs for both vehicles showing the new and replacement registration numbers
an authorisation letter (V948) which you’ll need to get your number plates made up

DVLA will send you registration certificates for both vehicles showing the new and replacement registration numbers.
These should arrive within 4 weeks of the confirmation letter

I am slightly confused as it looks like I should receive the conformation letter/Tax disc before the V5? Would these have been posted to the dealer, he did mention posting a Tax disc out to me but I assumed it would be for the old car with the old reg when it came back so I could cash it in.

I hope I have made sense with the above!

Thanks in advance for any help….

You will get them in the next day or two. I've just been through this process again, I got my V5 Tuesday and mot and tax disk on Wednesday.

Yeah sit tight. I recently got my V5 a couple of days before my tax disc and MOT cert.

Thanks for the info guys, you were correct!

All in it took less than two weeks, I was surprised how quick considering the horror stories I have been hearing about DVLA lately!

Just thought I would update this in case anyone else is searching for the same thing in the future.
