Dreadful idea, if serious. Might as well out him in a drift-spec Skyline.
Why is a mono like a drift spec skyline ....

Surely the 4 seat skyline is nearer the Aston of old

I am really shocked ?

Is this really the general opinion or just the trolls ?

....

What contemporary car should he drive ?

...

Can't drive a Bentley ... Not these days

...

Astons are so accessible.... Anyone can buy one

....

When I was an kid bond drove cars that were cutting edge ....
The bond films were a technology geek fest

...

Does nobody agree with me???
Why no ellipsis between your first two lines and no ellipsis or space between your second last two?

Bizarre formatting deviation!

Also, I don't think it's trolling and I don't think anyone agrees with you. I suspect this is because Bond has always been about driving cars that were about understatement and style than garish, brash stuff. In the books, a Bentley, in the films, most enduringly, the Aston.

I think they have it just right personally. Contemporary Bentley a bit too footballer for Bond, modern Aston a touch too ubiquitous but a classic DB5 is scarce enough that it works. Also, it's just a film.

WHY DOESN'T BOND DRIVE A MONO ?????

Simple.
Because he has style.... and he's not a nob.
Do you not like the mono?

Have you driven one or a similar car atom/x-bow ?

I think that they feel so much more hardcore than say Ferrari. Porsche Lambo Aston etc do ....

... I can really see Q sending him one in a wooden crate ....

He can hardly turn up in the square in Monte Carlo in a Mono, with a five point harness over the DJ, soaked by the rain, with flies in his teeth can he?

Mono's are ste anyway.

...and Bond deciding his rented Mondeo is probably better suited to a spot of spying and leaving it in the crate?

But he can't really drive a DB5 ... Have you driven one ..... They are awful ... More lightly to kill him than any hit man

...

So really then what contemporary car ... I disagree that bond cars have been classic and understated .... Lotus turbo ? .... Sunbeam ... Toyota prototype ... ???

..

Also interested in the negative mono opinions ... Are they not liked?

Maybe I have a different view of bond but yep ... I actually can imagine a clip where he pulls up casino square ... He's bond he doesn't wear a harness ... Jumps out and quips at the attendant to park it for him ...

I had never heard of it, but I think that one looks particularly crap, like a scouse take on what a single seater should be, think it looks more James May than James Bond.

Surely most of those sort of cars are bought by middle aged or retired old man who then only do a 1000 miles a year in it, and there is a reason for that.

To attempt to answer in order.

1). It's a film so irrelevant whether the DB5 is st to drive or not.

2). You're a Roger Moore Bond man, aren't you? The books paint him as a very ordinary bloke who quite likes his car. Not some awful scifi gadget-fest with exploding tie pins and whatnot

3). I'd never even heard of them until this thread. They look brash and noisy to me.

I'd never heard of a Mono either but a car less suited to Bond would be hard to find. If you've read the books rather than been dazzled by 007's film portrayal you'd understand his character better.

... Wow seriously people haven't heard of the mono .. I am shocked...

.. Big bond fan ... Apart from dalton.. Dalton

I am not sure bond would ever have become the world wide success it is without the gadgets ...

Mono is not a gadget... It's a true sports car of the day ... And built in the uk !!!

... I always liked the way bond plots allowed the cutting edge technology and thoughts of the day to be captured..

In my small view ... Cars like the atom, mono, x-bow etc allow the lucky rich enough to indulge the chance to experience the feel of a race car .... Nowadays computerisation allows everyone to drive sport cars fast without them biting back ...

Bond would need to be skillful to drive a mono fast around the hills with sheer drops ... Anyone can do that in an Aston .. The y are so good now and flatter any driver

Where does the girl go?

Also, would you not want a computerised, easy to drive car if y'know, you were having to shoot at baddies whilst driving it?

I've got this ridiculous mental picture now of Bond trying to chat up a girl at the Casino:

"Yes, well, I was just giving it 10/10ths on the Col overlooking the city there. It's a really challenging stretch of road. You have to get your gearing bang on, hit the apex, accelerate smoothly out the corner and...wait, where are you going?? Come back. I DRIVE A MONO! What's that?! IT'S A CONTEMPORARY BRITISH Sports...she's gone...Sigh...Barman, another J2O please. I intend on a rather spirited drive back to the hotel so must stay sharp!"

Smooth.

Most people are not that interested in single seat cars like that, even petrolheads, fun for a day or two, but everyone I know who has owned one does about 2000 miles in it and then looks at it depreciating or sells it cause it is in the way.

I am sure if you're 15 it looks great!

Omg ... How old is everyone on here ...

"I am sure if you're 15 it looks great! " ...... Thank you at last !!!!

Actually I think I was much younger when bond entered my brain and affected my car choices.....

... As bond is an anti hero really .... A rule breaker.... The man who is not afraid to trust Qs mad cap ideas....

I think this thread has demonstrated what the norm would be .... Lol (no offence so don't flame me)

And we all desperately don't want that (Dalton) ......

Btw ... I am sat in the Peninsula Hotel HK as we speak ... Watching the green rolls come and go......

He would look ultra cool pulling up now in a tux.....

Re the girl..... He always turns up on his own .... And the girl she always leaves early so she's in the shower once he has had the car chase ......

... Defo an opportunity to drive it under a massive truck and climb out onto the underside :-)

Cubby et al have occasionally chosen some right duffers for Bond's car in the past (Z3 anyone) but they have mostly been stylish and cool.

A Mono is neither.
