E34 and e32 BMWs - my favourite era of BMW following the e23 and e28. Looking around on the web there are a tiny number for sale compared to contemporary mercs, yet I remember them being much more common back in the day.
That's why I'm hanging on to my E34. I wouldn't call it a modern car though. I bought mine in 2004 and even then many of the ones for sale I went to view at were starting to look a bit ropey. The last ten years has killed even more of them off.TheAngryDog said:

MX3
My step-mother had 2 of these, a 1992 and a 1995 both in red. I have to say that sweet revving V6 and slick gearbox made it a nice drive....so much so I looked out for one 2yrs ago as a runabout, needless to say i could not find any that had been looked after and my memories remained just that.

The Fiesta RS Turbo. It was rare as hens teeth when i was searching for one about 15 years ago but now there are only 211 registered in the UK and half of them will be rusty or badly modified.
I never did end up finding a good one and went for a mint XR2i in the end.
I scrapped one. I only wanted it for the engine and pretty much everything on it had been barried. Looked a bit of a tit driving it up to Notts from Portsmouth with Bad Boy bonnet, weird body kit and daft exhaust. It was the best thing for itI never did end up finding a good one and went for a mint XR2i in the end.
I used to have a H plate Cavalier 1.6. It had a really nice standard sound system and good gearing, economical with no frills. Cant find one anywhere now
If you go onto How Many Left and look at the overall graphs for cars produced around 98 - 04 you can already see there are half of the numbers. Search for Vectras and there is probably around half as the oldest ones will be getting scrapped. I'm like others, I keep thinking the 90's was only 10 years ago and forget how long ago it was. I bought my car new on a 10 plate, I can't believe it will be 4 years old in April.
Certainly in the Aberdeen area one of the more common 90's cars is the 1st gen A4, a few kicking about in daily use. Stuff like Mk3 Astra's, Mk4 Polo's, Mk4 Fiestas, Mk3 Golfs, 106's, 406's, last gen Escort's are becoming a rare sight to name a few. I was behind an R reg Citreon Xantia the other day and saw a ZX a few weeks ago. Also behind a Y reg Mk2 Laguna...it must have been one of the lucky / reliable ones to be still on the road.

I saw a Maestro at the weekend which has to count as a rare sighting. What struck me was how light and airy it looked with a lot of glass and very narrow pillars. It certainly demonstrated how cars have changed over the years.
Car design has switched from making them pleasant to be inside, to making em look good from the outside. Lots less glass now with the aiming of enhancing the look. Consider Evoques, Merc CLS. I've not sat in either but suspect (particularly rear seat pax) don't find them airy and pleasant, like we used to in some of these cool older cars.Gassing Station | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
