This was the first car that came to my head, was thinking about it just yesterday in fact. They seem to be the most modern car that's disappearing, are they as bad as their reputation makes out then?

Edit: Escort mk6 too! They've disappeared overnight!

Its hard to call a car from the 1990s as modern especially the earlier stuff thats now 20+ years old but I kind of follow this smile

Audi 100
Austin Rover Montegos and Maestros
Original Rover 800 Sterlings box shape - less so the facelift but still rare
Pug 205 and 605
Renault 5
Vauxhall Senator
Rover 400 mainly the tourer and 420GSi/GSi turbo
Rover 600's
Citroen AX
The quirky 3 dr Rover 214Si/216gti/220gsi's (still see the TomCat coupes every now and again-nice shaped cars, even today still) 200 Cabrios? Forget it!

I still feel as though the 90s was 10years ago, even though it's much longer then that.

The first car I bought after Uni was a Citroen AX 1.1. I never see Citroen AX's, but they were great. Badly built, naturally, but they drove brilliantly. Shame.

Honestly, I rarely ever see Citroen Saxo VTR/VTS, 106 GTI, 206GTI, 306GTI and a few other hatches from that period. There were so many at the time.

It's a shame the Laguna II was so unreliable. They're attractive things in the right colour and are a lovely wafter to drive. That said, I still see loads around. The Safrane is much rarer, though I do drive past one most days at work!

It's a long while since I saw a Subaru Impreza 5 door hatchback, even classic shape Imprezas are thin on the ground. A couple of years ago you could see or hear a Scooby every time you stepped outside.

Volkswgen Polo Mk. 2
Volkswagen Golf Mk. 3 - Still a few, but reckon they'll become a real rarity over the next few years.
Nissan Micra Mk. 2 (bubble shape)

I don't think these have ever been ubiquitous, can't imagine many have been scrapped.

Quite shocking to see this list.....cars my kids will never know anything about. Shows how much of a disposable society we live in!

Don't forget the governments ill advised scrappage scheme from 2010 killed off 300,000 cars from the 90's or before.

The Fiesta RS Turbo. It was rare as hens teeth when i was searching for one about 15 years ago but now there are only 211 registered in the UK and half of them will be rusty or badly modified.

I never did end up finding a good one and went for a mint XR2i in the end.
I scrapped one. I only wanted it for the engine and pretty much everything on it had been barried. Looked a bit of a tit driving it up to Notts from Portsmouth with Bad Boy bonnet, weird body kit and daft exhaust. It was the best thing for it

I used to have a H plate Cavalier 1.6. It had a really nice standard sound system and good gearing, economical with no frills. Cant find one anywhere now

I took the engine out of an MG Metro Turbo once and put it in a 1978 Mini Mayfair....I think they all died due to rust. Needless to say my Mini did not last either.

Terrible reliability reputation meant they depreciated catastrophically. So when something does go wrong I guess they are not worth repairing. Even the last of the Mk2s which are about 7 years old are worth nothing!

Diesel Peugeot 405s were quite tough so you still see a few of the estates.

I agree about FIATs though - all the 90s ones are pretty much gone. I saw a Tempra the other day!

Rover 800s are pretty much all gone... good or bad thing though?!

The one that always gets me is the Mk3 Fiesta, everyone had one when I was at college, which wasnt all that long ago really.

Saying that, the reason they have disappeared is probably just that, there were so many of them about that it was easier just to pick up another one for £200 than fix the one that you had just broken.

At the other end of the scale, I saw a 57 plate Alfa 166 a few days ago, which is probably the rarest car I'll see this year
