morning gents, close (very close) to pushing the button on the 645i.

ears
Be very interested to hear your impressions, the trigger finger is itchy, a manual 645 is top of the (long) wanted list at the mo and there seems to be very little to read about them on t'internet.

Very tempted by this. Breaks all of my self-imposed rules of car purchasing, but..

if im to buy it ill certainly report back with my impressions.

with regards the 645i you have just posted, at that money id definately be looking at the 650i.

true, cant believe how little there is to read about them, ill try and read up on that coolant issue now.

Any thread experience of the B5 S4? I see a lot of high mile example (pushing 200k) so I guess the engines must be pretty reliable? I don't really know too much about them, but on the face of it seem to tick a few boxes for me.

Example:

And some of them have cloth as well lick

I've got a B5 A4 and it's worn very well. Paint and interior look 1 or 2 years old, not 15! Engines sound very lovely (i've got the 2.8 V6).

Absurd VFM. Isn't it amazing how the 6er has got better looking with age/familiarity?

Engines are complex. Cambelts are an engine-out job AFAIK. Turbo failures (dentist drills) are alarmingly frequent in some cases. Loads of boost pipework that can be leak-prone.
Represent fantastic value for money if you've got a good sized war chest for servicing and repairs and pick the right one, utterly ruinous if you don't.

The auto (tiptronic?) is atrocious.

Did 4 years and 90k miles in mine, was an 04 plate which I picked up at 2.5 years old. Only issues were the gas struts in the boot lid and the water pump needing replaced. I also got the sealed for life gearbox (its not btw) oil changed along with a replacement filter at 90k miles, £400 at an indy.
Usual suspension bushes replaced over the course of that time, but other than that it didn't put a foot wrong until a high speed off road incident, which was entirely my fault. 18mpg around town, 30ish on a run. Went on holiday in it to various places around Europe and enjoyed it for the GT that it is. The noise they make is good too smile

An auto (tiptronic) B5 in an S4....in the UK?

You learn something new on PH every day! smile
Don't know if they ever came to the UK but plenty of discussion of the high instances of tiptronic failure on the various S and RS forums.

That is my old car. I moved it on at about 70k miles, it was super clean at that time as you say cloth is much rarer than leather & hides the miles far better. That hasn't cost much in depreciation since I sold in early 2009, just as everyone had their knickers in a twist about the credit crunch & didn't want used barges. They make a great all weather all rounder & offer great pace for the money but I just didn't gel with it. They're perfectly capable of raping your wallet, ingesting the turbos is the worst that can happen but have a look through RS246.com for more info.
