I think it would create too much car envy and may end up making your colleagues distance themselves from you...

Chaps - £2k car to do 60 miles per day. Must have climate, must work, must get >=40mpg on a mostly dual carriageway commute.

What do we think?
Sorted.

You'll also get brownie points for taking up less space in the office car park. wink

I was looking for one of those bioethanol doowaps thinking that instead of a lower empeegee you could use a cheaper fuel but came across this slightly dubious number instead. Might be a nice place to wait for the AA?

Parts appear to remain cheap and available...

Eta - plenty in scope on Autotrader. For eg - http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/2014...

I'd understood that the 2.5 was the least reliable, according to internet wibbling, not that they were particularly slow.

How much is the more modern version to run, anyone know? wink

Hubba hubba

Colour fail. wink

Mine has cost about £1,900 over the 29 months/12,000 miles I've owned it, including a set of new tyres but excluding VED, insurance and fuel. nerdsmile

I like the colour!

Any brakes in that cost or just servicing?

Tempting

No brakes needed so far; I find they only tend to slow me down. wink

With adverts like that I always, always make a judgement based on the background in the photos...

Half tempted but I'm not sure a Cat C with DIY servicing and 100k miles, parked in a yard, is really £7k's worth.

Red with 18s is good though!

Seeing as I struggled to tip over the £5k mark on Ebay for an HPI clear car with 120k miles and FSH a year ago, I'd be tempted to agree.

Pretty sure that good ones have quietly crept up in value recently.

That is a fantastic looking thing.
I beg your pardon?
Notice I said 'fantastic'. It's not beautiful or gorgeous, but I think it's a truly stunning car - one that makes you look at it and can't stop. I like that.

A decent E46 330d will do that. Mine's a Cat C so probably worth two packets of crisps and a Coke, but over 2 years has been utterly reliable, has lovely and cold air con, and gets 38-43 mpg all day long.

A well looked after SE should be in budget and much more comfortable than the Sport.

Kid at work has just paid that for a Passat estate 130tdi. Climate, leather, heated seats, tons of room. He's commutes a similar distance and gets 45mpg all week long.

I've driven it and it's a perfectly decent appliance. Unusual choice for a 21 year old but he's into shooting and outdoorsy stuff. Plus, he's seeing a lass, and his family are strict religious types, so the rear load space comes in handy.
Rover 75 CDTi comfy as your front room sofa, brilliant Climate control, get a Connie SE model and it has all the toys...
awesome commuting wafter, and i'm told that the Auto version is rather good as well...
