A woofling V8 petrol in an E-Class feels correct.
Fair enough. I probably used to feel the same (hence previously having a 540i/6 Touring) but I wonder how much of a woofle you get now? With the E63 you get (IMO) too much, suspect the 500 is fairly muted.

Anyway, it's not my problem so it doesn't really matter smile

I've never understood this but if you've ploughed £12k into a car over 16 months wouldn't you be inclined to reap the benefit?

Yep, great motor.

You can get supercharger kits for those, too!

Long time lurker wondering what people think about the following deal:

AUC BMW Z4MC 2007 - bog std, 20,000 miles. 17k dead with negotiated 2 year warranty and new tyres...
That is unbelievably cheap for a 20k miles AUC Z4MC.

Would have expected £20k+ from a BMW dealer with that mileage.

Which dealer just out of interest ?

Or, when you realise the list of stuff still outstanding is twice as long as what you've already done, have run out of money and you blow your brains out. Selling the only relief from the insanity of it all. hehe

No more or less than any other massive car with a massive engine. See M5, B5, B7, E55, E63, RS6 etc etc for details. Yes it doesn't have M/RS/AMG suspendy bits but it's not an SE either. Nowt wrong with some nice naturally aspirated cubic inches if you don't care about empeegees.

You don't like large naturally aspirated petrol engines? Ok. Feel for you bud.

I get that a three year old E Class doesn't have the steering feedback of a 964. And that you lament it. Really, I do. But given the chap wants a modern family wagon with a bit of poke, I don't see anything wrong with going for a 5 litre motor under the bonnet. hehe

Interesting photo location. Disappointing that there is no evidence a handbrake turn was the method used for parking. hehe

I'd like to try a Tuscan one day. There appears to be a very wide range of pricing going on. eek

I can confirm it's lovely in a 1-Series too, even in strangled 125i form. Still, a cheeky remap will unstrangle it, which I'll look into when I pick it up on Monday smile

Just been to test drive a Boxster S for the first time, first ever roadster too. Perfect day for it, traffic, not so much.

Impressions:

  • No steering height adjustment, why not??
  • I can just about fit comfortably, can't imagine many folk above 6ft feeling great in it.
  • Tight, taut steering although not given much of a chance to work it given the traffic.
  • Sounds nice, louder than I expected, in a good way.
  • All the controls felt alien, heavy brake pedal and a spongey accelerator, although I have been acclimatised to BMW DBW throttles for a while now. I have a short shift kit on the M5 I'd like rid of but even so the throw on the gear lever in the Boxster seems very long.
Enough drama for a weekend car? I'm not sure, thoughts of waiting and saving for a Z4M Roadster remain. I'm sure a properly spirited drive would let it shine more, damn you General Public. It has reminded me how nippy the M5 still is though so that can't be bad. hehe

986.

Also, it does do a good job of keeping wind noise down with the roof down. I didn't think I'd be able to pretty much speak normally at 70mph+.

I think I've probably mentioned this once or twice before, but for me the 986S has the balance of mechanical grip vs power wrong. Aside from the impressive ability to go round corners like it's on rails, it isn't a huge amount of fun.

That said, I'd love to try one on skinnier tyres (and smaller rims, come to think of it). 205 section 17s could be a giggle.
