4 Star Classics and selection of nice trinkets for sale........

These are my favourite Alpina and 5 series. That car looks achingly good in every way.

In the land of paradise (AKA Lottery), my Cote d'Azur villa with a 500E in one of the garage spots would be making way sharpish for this Alpina.

Morning chaps, hope all is well in the world of the Thread? Looks like I've got some catching up to do, oh and JAYB...... clap

Had a fantastic holiday down in the South of France to see my parents and family friends, gorgeous weather, wine, company, food and of course more wine.

Left home at 04:30 one Sunday morning to catch the 06:40 ferry to Calais (no tuxedo at breakfast) and hotfooted it down in the Audi which has covered 191k miles now and still gets 700 miles to a tank, in fact the first time I stopped was just past Bordeaux to stretch my legs (no sniggering) and have a coffee. Felt a bit like a TG Challenge. I have such a soft spot for the ol' Audi now and even more so after just the two of us made the long slog down to the chateau (parents were already there so drove solo) and the only slight inconvenience of travelling solo was the 4 peage' but as there is hardly any traffic it really didn't matter in the slightest.

Roads (and lane discipline) over there are just fantastic and enjoyed every minute of it, just gutted to be back home now!

Sounds and looks fantastic. Whereabouts'ish is it?

Did you drive Calais-Bordeaux non-stop? 500 miles? eek

A £17k, 150k mile e39? It sounds absolutely pampered, but still, £17k?!

Seems 'cheap' for a 4.6. I'd happily smoke about in it!

So... I've asked this question already elsewhere, but...

That e39 drives as well as it looks. It's properly, staggeringly, awesomely good. As close as you'll find to a new e39 without spending £30k at Hexagon. But it has 155k on the clock. So is it worth the asking?

Blimey. After reading the advert, I'd say yes. But with the caveat - if one were to buy it it would have to be for the long term (Gruber alert!). I suspect one won't get more than £10k selling it, so value needs to be got, like. Bit like a new brand new car, really.

Ciao buongiorno and all that folks.
I've given up the long fight against the modern world and joined the dark side...new rather classics are taking my money. The ML is being replaced by a 350 estate with some brand spanking new 9 speed box apparently. Didn't k ow Merc did one, brand new for MY15 motors. Of more interest I've haggled argued and hacked about £15k from a new slk55 blick mit dkr. I can't be added with the grief of old motors anymore when I lack the time to keep on top of them.

Well the good news is that the £15k you've haggled off will cover the depreciation up to the point of putting the key in the ignition.

Worst "Hark at me, I'm buying two new Mercs" post. Ever.

Seriously? From me...the last of the Brit/Italian character is everything-istas and damn practical reality? Badge of honour to many maybe but just about last act of my capitulation in the face of reality frown Spanish went with the accumulated ankle injuries, Italians to pay for house deposits and the brutal realisation that Alfa really are muppets. Half the thread can afford new Mercs if they choose, historically I've been the one who derided new German metal. I'll happily defend the 55 though, I think they make superb GTs, always had a soft spot for them despite the majority Z/boxster bias. Plan A was to go for a 32 actually, bargain at £7k but any half decent research simply prooves DJRC'S 3rd law...but a 98-04 Merc at your peril. Several owners on the Merc forums are talking of replacing their front wings and the fragility of the seats etc. In an ideal world I'd love a deep claretcolour one but its just not viable.
As it happens though I mentioned the 9 speed box on the 350 deliberately because IIknow jack about it. I've not seen much about it anywhere and Merc don't have a great gearbox rep. The Thread however is one of the best collections of eclectic knowledge around and someone probably does know something. Other than that diesel dog haulers aren't most interesting things in the world.

Luke.

Very nice find. Thank god I've just bought a car or I'd be all over that.

That is brave.

Edit to add - is that the lesser spotted "Off road" suspension option ?
