Am I right in thinking a Threadist has had a Mk5 Golf GTi? What's the low-down on them?
I had a Mk5 GTI - and it was good. Relatively comfy, relatively fast, relatively reliable. I never really got to drive it beyond the limit, but everything it did, it did reasonably well.

Advert is a bit light on info, but this looks half-decent:

Can these do >30mpg?

Yes, at c.70mph on the motorway mine will do low 30's (not that it gets driven like that very often).

smile Sums it up for me. I felt no emotion towards it, and didn't miss it when it had gone, but everything it did, it did pretty well!

I'm guessing he means M030 rather than GT3 - as you say, the ride height isn't GT3 level.

At £9k it might be a nice car though. Mileage doesn't bother me, and that seat can be sorted for buttons. Obviously the lack of info on other maintenance work would need investigation, but it [as in, a 996 C2 manual] could be what I'm looking for.

It's been a while since I've driven a 996 so I'd need to try one again, but given my gripe with the 986 is over the balance of power vs grip, I'm sure the 996 can be fettled in the right direction with the right wheel/tyre combo. Plus it'd largely be punting up and down dual carriageways (with lots of roundabouts) so it probably doesn't matter as much. And I like how the 997 drives...

As for the engine issues, they are what they are. I'd be happy to take the punt.

Morning chaps, hope all is well in the world of the Thread? Looks like I've got some catching up to do, oh and JAYB...... clap

Had a fantastic holiday down in the South of France to see my parents and family friends, gorgeous weather, wine, company, food and of course more wine.

Left home at 04:30 one Sunday morning to catch the 06:40 ferry to Calais (no tuxedo at breakfast) and hotfooted it down in the Audi which has covered 191k miles now and still gets 700 miles to a tank, in fact the first time I stopped was just past Bordeaux to stretch my legs (no sniggering) and have a coffee. Felt a bit like a TG Challenge. I have such a soft spot for the ol' Audi now and even more so after just the two of us made the long slog down to the chateau (parents were already there so drove solo) and the only slight inconvenience of travelling solo was the 4 peage' but as there is hardly any traffic it really didn't matter in the slightest.

Roads (and lane discipline) over there are just fantastic and enjoyed every minute of it, just gutted to be back home now!

23 acres of nobody else at Chez Loon; cloud9

Sounds and looks fantastic. Whereabouts'ish is it?

Did you drive Calais-Bordeaux non-stop? 500 miles? eek
I did indeed yes, house is approx 50km south of Bordeaux,

Maybe next year it will be more like this wink

That S70 over-shadows even that illustrious company; what a machine, and price, in comparison to the others.

It would even tempt me from a B12 Alpina limo.....

Loon - are you around the week of the 8th Sep?

I may pop by as I've got this very car for the week:

Assuming I don't die driving it home of course. 311bhp. Gulp.

Had a brief drive of this today as my good friend has just purchased it..... things have moved on in the last 10 years or so but it was a fantastic experience; has a nice old school feel to it.

One of the best cars to come out of this century. In my top ten all time greats, fo' sho'.
