How come you didn't go to BMWorx or Birds? (or whatever they are called now).
Mostly convenience, but also because the local dealer HAS got a tech who worked on E28s when new, and apparently runs one himself. I get the impression that he just couldn't be arsed.

It took some explaining to them that although yes, I did get a good deal on the labour rate compared to normal, it stops being a good deal when you have to buy twice as much of it for the same result.

Anyway, progress made, and I'd like to think that at least one of us learnt something today hehe

Threadist - tell me this 550i m sport auto will be boring to drive and a money pit. Fully kitted out spec with a decent sized v8 and I could probably get a bit chipped off the price and a couple of years warranty thrown in as it has been in stock a while. Waiting for a manual but they don't come up very often.

There's a big long thread on the BMWland forum about that very car. You want to search for '550i ownership' by a poster called Spuffington.

Happy reading, you might want to don a pair of wellington boots before you embark, she's a leaky ship wink

That you don't take an E28 to a BMW dealership for servicing?

Question - when my M5 goes off to Aus, it will be collected by a shipping agent here in the UK. Do I fill in the V5C as if I've sold it to a trader, or do I mark it as a permanent export and send it with a letter detailing the new owner in Aus?

The DVLA site isn't clear.
For the two cars I've sold which went abroad I marked the permanent export bit. Never heard anything back to say I'd done wrong, just the normal acknowledgement slip saying the cars weren't in my name anymore.

Took the e30 to the local dealers once. "We don't service old cars, sir...would you mind moving it? You appear to be leaking oil on our nice pristine forecourt."

Never been back. Left my mark though biggrin

I can't imagine who would ever buy these after they're a few years old, other than a limo business for taking kids to proms in.

It doesn't have a great future. Too big to park outside a terraced house

Horrible aside, plated-up and shiny it still looks like £2-300k. I'd think some of the more gaudy expensive hotels will pop them on their guest ferry fleets.

No problem. By all means consider it, but only on the basis of a completely unconditional warranty to cover any interior water leaks for 6 months or so.

The BMW AUC warranty doesn't specifically exclude water leaks but it does exclude seals.
