Looks like Mr 124 has the ultimate spec Merc estate coming in:

E320, black, mushroom leather, sportline chassis, 8 hole wheels, aircon, 108k miles.

I wonder if it will be five figures?

Ok threadists, a theoretical question for a Sunday night, that may have some basis in reality in the future biggrin

You buy a new house, with parking space for a few cars and a double garage. Sounds perfect, but after buying the house, you only have around £5k to put a couple of cars in that garage.
They are purely fun cars, you have others for the daily grind. What do you buy?

A mk1 mx5 plus something else?
Only buy one car and make the other half of the garage a workshop?
An 80s hot hatch?

£5k really isn't a lot of cash to play with, but houses turn out to be expensive...

An R129 is a bit, dare I say it, boring though, for a car that has no other requirement than fun.

MX5
Probably the sensible choice.

Here's a contrastingly daft one:

Your Sini-bin is now up to £18. At this blistering rate, you'll be thrashing an A-series round the back roads of Essex by year's end (2045).

£2.5k on an MX-5 Turbo for solo.
£2.5k on a Jaguar XJR or XJS for 'with company'

Good call. Possibly a Series III Jag rather than an XJR, depending on how much you want the raw grunt.

Just remembered, during the weekend I saw a nice yellow 968 CS parked on the street near me. Looked great, although I'm not really a fan of the body coloured wheels that some of the CSs have.

Like this one:

It would be intersting to see how the trends of car colour have changed over the past 40-50 years. Today's roads seem ever more monochrome, and with cars also having become so much taller, a low, yellow 968 really stands out!
