I finally got around to getting an exhaust leak fixed on the Merc - it turns out a flange on a downpipe had rusted away. Decided to get it fixed properly, with new sections to replace the secondary cats and adjoining pipe, and new flanges at either end as they were all looking pretty rotten.
I kept the big central silencer so the sound and volume is pretty much the same, just a touch of off-beat grumble added. It's good quality work, done by Solid Fabrications down near Orpington in Kent.

If so, here's my warning: my 4 year old daughter will be leaving sticky fingerprints over every glass and metal surface she can find; while not drinking your coffee, my wife will be changing nappies on your chairs; while not having his nappy changed, our youngest will be shouting "brrrm brrrm" and generally creating noise; I'll be wearing that general weary look of all fathers of young children.

Oh - and I'm planning to arrive around 9:30, and park our bloody great un-necessary Range Rover on some of your nicely manicured grass.

City centre driving, cobbled streets, taking 3.5 hours to get from the edge of Edinburgh to the Forth Bridge (
) and motorway driving at night probably highlights everything that's bad about it. I think it's only fair to show it some B roads tomorrow.
A concern would be an occasional thud when ramming it into 4th, I'll just tip toe round that...

It's red, close enough.
I'd thought about a Trophy long before seriously considering a Boxster. I'd have probably bought the red Boxster I was going to see if it hadn't sold shortly before I was meant to see it. That did allow for a ton of TLC for the M5 though and I'd like to think a Clio will be cheaper to run...

Only fourth? Gearbox/syncro are almost always 2 & 3rd. Change the dogbone mount first and change the trans fluid second.
I would be really surprised if that didn't resolve it.

Yeah but only occasionally. If I wasn't thrashing the car it wouldn't happen at all and even when thrashing it it doesn't do it every time. Looking through the paperwork the rear engine mount had the old bushes removed and poly bushes fitted. Would not replacing the whole mount have an effect? It was only about 2.5 years/5k miles ago.
