It's great. I just wish I had more time to drive it and more space to keep it.
All offers happily considered! It's a touch rich at the moment, but I've been in no rush to sell and have turned down a couple of downright cheeky bids. But I'm now facing up to the reality that with a baby in tow I'm just never going to use it so it might as well go to a new home.
Once it's MOT'd in the next few days, and I've run around in it for a couple of weeks, it'll be getting a price reduction.
The replacement engine (it's a recon unit rather than a brand new block) didn't strike me as a problem, and it works beautifully. If I'd been after an ultra-low mileage, super-original garage queen I'd have been more concerned. But I was after a nice useable toy and didn't have the £8k entry fee for a garage queen.
ETA: I'd be interested in the collective Thread wisdom on a sensible price for it. There's a couple of tiny rust bubbles (but the usual danger spots are all clean) and a few age-commensurate marks here and there, but (as those who've seen it in the flesh can confirm) it's a tidy little motor and there's lots of history with it.

Sorry, why does a baby (congratulations btw) cause the sale?
Thanks! And it's a fair question. The short answer: Indirect cause and effect.
The longer version: We live in London in a flat with a single parking space and we currently own three cars and a scooter. We rent an extra parking space. So that deals with my car, the scooter and Mrs G's family wagon. Anything else has to live "off site" somewhere. For the last few months, "off site" for the Golf has been 35 miles away at 4star. Which was fine when Mrs G was often out for a Saturday seeing her friends and I was free to go and play with cars. Less so now I need to do my fair share of baby caring at the weekends. So basically my options are (a) rent yet another parking space and bring the car closer to home (b) mothball it until we have more space and more time or (c) sell the third car. The household "ways and means committee" firmly suggests only the third option is viable at the moment.

Where in London are you based Gruber - I'm in Canary Wharf and have an empty Golf-sized parking space... (seriously - the last car we kept in it was our Mk5 Golf).
That's very kind! We're in Battersea and I work in Victoria, so sadly Canary Wharf is almost as time consuming to reach as Guildford.

Got some spare cash lying around, can someone please give me a reason not to go and view this ? Always fancied a Rallye, give me something to get my teeth into over the winter and would be a nice stablemate for my Clio 197.
