An MX5 might be the right option, as I can potter around in it for a few months then pop it in the garage when we buy a new house next year and then get a "sensible" car to go with it.
Doing it the other way round, i.e. barge now, mx5 after the house purchase, may well mean that the fun garage car never gets bought. There will always be something else to spend the money on

Wheels on that are worth about half the price of admission alone. If I wasn't still haunted with nightmares of trying to replace the heater matrix on a G60 I'd be all over that.
