More a lesson in 'buying well', ownership periods and real life running costs.
Fluid change and pad replacement costs were palatable, especially as they pick up and deliver the car.
I've called CPC for a quote on discs & pads but obviously goes to answerphone.
Even if I had wanted them to do it today, BMW don't have the parts in stock.

Be interesting to see what BMW charge.
ETA How long would that lot take to fit?
I don't know which way to hold a hammer let alone a spanner and I have a guy who charges £25/hour.

Just goes to show that if something is used regularly, and maintained, they don't all break as soon as the clock ticks over to 100k miles.

1) Your discs won't NEED changing, but they'll advise it needs doing well before they're actually dead.
2) Buy the parts, drive to my house and we'll change them. Just get the to do the fluid change while it's in.

Plenty more through labour costs alone.Be interesting to see what BMW charge.
Not sure what they're like for discs across non-M cars but there's a dealer shop on ebay that's actually about the cheapest around for M5 brakes, even compared to ECP/Carparts4less.

I did get the fluid done, £130 inc. a decent wash and valet doesn't seem too bad.
I'll call the mechanic I've used and see what he quotes.

Will 650i replacement discs and pads need some coding too?
Any ideas on this? That would mean going to Phil's or similar at least. I doubt it though but as there is a fair bit of dash / idrive drama due to the discs/pads, you're probably right. jonnydm said:

Or 17% of a golf r for two years. In fairness to the car, this work was factored into the purchase price.

I've got a LS400 it's a mk4, it's been lovely to drive but after a year of ownership as lovely as it is, it really is boring to drive, recently my gearbox has become borked, possibly number 3 solenoid, and it still drives superbly despite not wanting to change into fifth, everything else works perfectly, the interior looks like 20k despite having done 155k, no squeaks or rattles, silent cruising on the motorway, but handles like a boat and that's why my next car will be a hot hatch of some description, Clio 182 or 197 probably, but if you already have a fun car I would definitely recommend the big Lexus, it's a relaxing place to be on a long motorway run.
Really liked my LS430 and would have another but not enjoyable enough to be an only car. Clio is a great antidote to barge lethargy. 182 is a great thing, in fact the LS and 182 would make a great pair though I still prefer a 1 car 'compromise'.
