I would say so yes. Maybe a tad whimsical and romanticist but with these kind of cars, these kind of settings then that is what I am after. An escape. A release from the bland, monochrome world that we live in. A sea of grey VW's and white BMW's is what fills my windscreen on the way to and from work and I yearn for a bit of hedonism, some joie de vivre and passion. I'm lucky that the view from my desk is glorious and thus the Petrolicious videos fit rather well with me and I'm sitting here now contemplating what to take home, to stretch its legs, to stretch my legs and to fall into a Petrolicious video in 3d.
Maybe I should start playing them on a loop on a big screen in the showroom......
Oh, and now I really rather want a 208/308 GT4.......

Oddly enough, I was looking at that very car last night. Reliability worries nag the back of my brain a little, but what can really go wrong that can't be fixed?? Like the Civic, most of the cars I've seen have 20-30k more for that kind of cash. Ta muchly for the suggestions gents, now to find something that doesn't require a flight or 10 hours on public transport to get too!!

Mechanically they are strong; the engine is a tough unit as long as the belts have been changed correctly (they require specific timing tools) then you should be all good; you'll be able to tell if the pulley (dephaser) is knackered as you won't hear yourself think due to the rattle . Gearbox's can be weak and the standard exhausts corrodes for fun but most will have had an aftermarket system fitted by now as they are cheaper than the OEM item.Ta muchly for the suggestions gents, now to find something that doesn't require a flight or 10 hours on public transport to get too!!
A lot of fun for not much cash and keep it tip top should be able sell it on in 12 months for a minimal loss; fairly cheap motoring.

The Moneytron Mondials are coming up for auction.

50k seems a low estimate for a period racer steered by Rosberg, Gachot and Johansson.

What could go wrong? Well in my experience the gear box could st itself (I had a 172 Cup for 3yrs). That was a relatively big bill compared to the value of the car! Other than that it was very reliable and I came very close to buying a 182 last Spring. I think the knack is finding one that has been looked after as there are not inherent build quality issues IMHO. They're just in that price bracket and appeal to a certain demographic.

Lots.
I should stay away from this thread. Supposed to be shopping for a cheap station car with a long MOT (now the weather has turned my 125 scooter isn't really cutting it!). Set myself £1k budget
Since the Thread is on page 427 (in 'default' view at least?), today i would like this:
http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C476175
For 75,000 Greenbacks, it seems a reasonable price to me.

2. Bomproof reliability, fantastic (if buzzy) engine and great fun (prefer the original to the later heavier cars personally) but not all have aircon

Doesn't the ST170, CTR & 182 all have roughly 145ish ftbs at 5-6000rpm? Sorry, it just reminds me of people saying 8v golfs have more midrange than 16v golfs if you see what I mean...[pic of Civic]
