I'm wondering how hard it is to make a Hawk Cobra.
Then I'm wondering how hard it is for someone like me to make a Hawk Cobra...
You could start by setting yourself an easier target. Are you aged 3 or over? Then I'm wondering how hard it is for someone like me to make a Hawk Cobra...
I too would love to build a cobra rep but know I could never feel safe travelling at over, say, 22mph, in something I'd had a hand in bodging together. It'd be like a clown car with a wibbly-wobbly axle, and I'd have to stop at every corner to put the doors back on.
If you can handle the ignominy of a Q-plate, £17k seems a relative bargain just for the zen-like peace of mind you could achieve simply by knowing that I played no part whatsoever in its construction:
Part of the retirement plan is to build meself a Caterham. Just think, no rusty bolts, no WD40, no oxy torch
Although a poverty specced, self-built Roadsport is now knocking on the door of £25k.
Anyhow, still got one of these, plus a load of bits, stacked up in the corner of the workshop and ready to build for The Lad. Probably a good place to start.
How much would one realistically need to set aside for a self built Hawk Cobra these days?

Not only would I be incredibly concerned driving something that I had had a hand in, I also am not the best at finishing things...
Exhibit A: This was purchased and started when you could buy a new NSR400. I took the photos before I binned it after finding it in the loft when moving house four years ago.
With regard to buying someone else's handiwork; how do I know that they weren't worse than me?!!

From the build threads I've read that divulge it seems to be, depending on engine and new / 2nd hand bits around £25k ish.My main stumbling block is a lack of garage. Ineptitude aside for one moment, I would dearly like to have a go as it would happily be a car that you could keep forever.
Oh bloody hell...

Outrageous, is what it is. Also, unobtainum.

This has the four-thirty horsepower LS3. (The car, not the trailer before some bright spark says it!)
Yes please.

That Toylander is fantastic. Is it a full kit of parts that you assemble?Although a poverty specced, self-built Roadsport is now knocking on the door of £25k.

You can either just buy the build manual and scratch build, or purchase the full kit in parts. I make stuff for a living but still opted for the latter, even with all the gear to hand. The body panels (MDF) were a little over £100 IIRC: it wasn't worth me jigging up for. Should have it built for around £1200. Not cheap for a toy, but build it nicely and you'll see most of it back come resale time.
Still doesn't compute that a motorised MDF toy that you knock together yourself using PVA and woodscrews owes me more than the luxury pinnacle of Japanese engineering that is my daily driver.
