Whoever signed off the whole car should be shot. Interceptors are horribly ugly things.
Get. Out. One of the finest looking cars ever made.

Your What Car? conundrum solved.
Supercharged ... check
V8 ... check
rear wheel drive ... check
not a Jaguar ... check
under £15K ... check
Supercharged Yank
And if you're prepared to give up the V8-ness
Green Meanie
or
Red Devil
The is indeed incredibly kind of you however I think I may just stick with my own chosen path of s/ charged financial ruin. Your What Car? conundrum solved.

Hold the front page! This just in - 4WD, but still with a supercharger. LaurasOtherHalf said:
I've always had a thing for those too. Would love one as a station snotter, but somehow counterintuitively it would need to be an unmolested one and be bought for peanuts (under £1500). They still seem to command reasonable money and are pretty rare now. Actually I'm probably a bit older than you, the car I really wanted when I was 17 was the generation before, and wasn't supercharged - the Polo GT "Coupe".
Had to make do with a 1.3l Mk2 Golf C in Gambia red which couldn't pull the skin off a rice pudding, 4 speed box, yet somehow the love affair with VW has never ended.

No power (admittedly fixable with a blower); terminal understeer; poor ride; inert and needlessly heavy steering. Oh and it's also friggin thirsty (which is simply an inconvenience when petrol is £8 a tank, but annoying all the same). Looks nice though. Also hasn't broken down yet, which I must say, given that I've been through two Saabs already, is quite an achievement.
In short, don't.

I'm currently smoking one of these (albeit, sans supercharger) out here in the sandpit.

Thought I'd share my excitement here on behalf of a chum who took delivery of this lovely classic earlier in the week.
It was minus a million degrees and late on a school night, but so worth just standing around in the garage ogling at the simplicity and beauty of the design.
Sitting on the top row of the truck
Impressive delivery vehicle that was on its way to the next Mecum auction after "our' stop
Off the truck
In it's new home
I think it took us about 45 minutes to find the bonnet release
The pictures are of course pretty rubbish quality so I will snap some much better ones when the opportunity arises
