However, it seems that they weren't entirely consistent in putting the full width strip only on the rear of water cooled C4 variants. Seems that some 997 models slipped through the net. nonohehe
The early 996 C4s don't have it, but the later 996 C4Ss do.

Thought all 997 4WD versions did, as they all had the wide body.

I just wanted to say I love this thread.

I love the variety of what is covered on here, and it's (almost) always of interest. There can't be many places where topics as varied as: a balanced objective comparison of merits and demerits of E39 B10 v M5; the love of XJS; light strips of the back of 911s; and a sprinkling of steel wheels, new Land Rover, the odd mini thrown in by Loon, random Ferrari and other intersting things all get air time.

All good stuff and helps keep me sane in a mad world - thanks guys, and keep it up for 2015!!

Well said Rejn, I too follow avidly and yet have little to contribute very often. I think the underlying them is one of "Class" dare I use that word, perhaps Style but more deep seated, "Octane'ness"perhaps being the best fit.
A very varied range of vehicles discussed but always ones which spark my interest, all design classics and often ones that I have never appreciated before.

As said keep up the good work.

A belated Happy New Year to all Threadsirs (and dames, should there be any reading)! party

With the exception of a nice pre-IB 'E' or 'S' (though I have not coveted them for quite a while given the prices they are going for), I have to say that a 964 C2 coupe in this colour would be my favourite air-cooled Porsche. lick

I was in warmer climes during the festive period and it was interesting to have use of a humble W202 C180 Mercedes like this:

It's the same vintage as my C43 therefore, but it felt very different. I was surprised that it still felt very much like a Mercedes of the golden W201/W124/W126 80s age - the feel of the controls, the seats, the ride, the relaxed gait - they all had that distinctive Mercedes style.

Almost all that stuff has been filtered out by AMG in the C43. I am intrigued whether these classic Mercedes traits continued for much longer into their 21st century models. I am guessing they might still be there in more modest C and E classes of the 2000s, but I would assume they're now completely gone after about 2008.

Thus, I conclude that the W202 is very much underrated as a nice little car and a true Mercedes. Nice ones will be rare in the UK now.

This one has only done 2000 miles. It will always attract optimistic pricing.

Advert say "25605 miles", "The vehicle was purchased by it current owner when just five months old and with only 2000 miles on the odometer."

Sort of like, but also needs sunstrip delete. hehe

Wheel & tyre fail, and has wrong engine to try and command the premium 'original' pricing.

I wouldn't kick it out of the garage though. biggrin

ETA: prefer their Orange "RS2000" for the same price.

The idea of one of these appeals immensely. And they look positively good value when compared to the Bavarian equivalents.

What's parts availability and general reliability like? Has anyone got any first hand experience?

Are, the chance to reprise Richard Hammond's role in the TG German road trip - what PH'er wouldn't jump at that chance? And it's in Stalbans - a place I've yet to explore.

It is very tempting at <5K, however.
