Weatherspoons Pubs on the Motorway.

In my experience weatherspoons is normally frequented by people who catch busses and go to the job centre every other week.
How will they get to this new pub?
Will somebody think of the scroates?
Perhaps they could lay on a shuttle bus.
Also, the food at weatherspoons is definitely not "decent quality" as another poster said. Cheap maybe. Decent quality not.

I dont really see the issue. A lot of services have a Travelodge or premier inn which have a pub - not yet have I decided to go get wasted en route! Likewise with the thousands of pubs which line each side of every road!
My only concern is that it will tempt the people who are happy to have 1 and drive. So instead of a KFC and Coke they will grab a burger and a pint. So whilst they are not "drunk", they are still under the influence.

True, we should ban all pubs which can be reached by road.

If people are not intending to drink & drive, how else do you suggesting they get to the pub?Pubs at motorway services don't interest me, but I'm not aghast at the idea.
It won't be the same without the solitary red faced old blokes that you always see.
I quite like going into Wetherspoons at the airport now and then when there's time to kill, but I can't imagine why anyone would want to hang around a services having a leisurely drink. I imagine it would be great if you found yourself on a Saga coach trip and wanted just to take the edge off...

Tow obvious groups are people who are passengers in cars/minibuses and people on coach trips. Not everyone on the motorway or using the services is a driver.

Can you imagine the carnage when a WI coach trip runs into an RHS one after getting lagered up at the 'Spoons. Pubs at motorway services don't interest me, but I'm not aghast at the idea.

There are plenty of far far worse pubs in the land, the average Weatherspoons is well maintained, clean, reasonable service, good prices and by not playing music tends to keep away a lot of younger customers seeking a rave experience.

First thing that comes to mind is that (for some reason) this particular services actually draws locals looking for fast food and local shopping. You quite often see people walking in and out of there, and personally I'd be more worried about those sort of people getting stfaced and stumbling out onto the fairly major roads nearby.
Secondly, I don't know about most people but I only have more than a couple of drinks if I'm socialising in somewhere I like. I doubt many actual drivers are going to spend much time hanging around there, so if anyone's going to drink it's more than likely just going to be a pint with a quick dinner.
You could argue that in itself is not good but fact is it's legal and thus within the (ever shrinking) realms of personal responsibility.

Non story.
A few minutes from every Motorway exit there is a pub. Time will tell if anyone cares enough to use it.
To you and I it's a non-story as we know that. We also know there's cheap petrol before you get on the motorway / after you get off and fairly close to most exits. It doesn't stop loads and loads of people buying it at the services though.A few minutes from every Motorway exit there is a pub. Time will tell if anyone cares enough to use it.
So, putting a pub right where the people who can't / won't go further than a service station for their long journey sustenance is giving them the opportunity to buy beer where they didn't previously have it.
Those people will now buy bear during long journeys when previously they wouldn't.
Whether they're the driver or a passenger is open to question.
