Or you could buy a 280hp Impreza STI for under £3k and have a much better driving experience and performance than the Polo is offering.
300BHP in "idiotic comparison between old and new car" shocker.
Nearly thirty thousand posts on this forum and you've still not learned how stupid this train of thought is?

...and which would cost more to run, and be more reliable?

My word, too many on here have no clue at all; TBH I think ANY car gets a slating from keyboard warrior half wits usually driving an old Focus or similar.

If you goons can't appreciate a small, 4wd, petrol hatch, you simply aren't a car enthusiast.

Actually I wonder how many proper enthusiasts there are here?

I'm now waiting to endless threads on leasing, finance and the "correct" way to get hold of one.

And perhaps the Q car Polo R will appeal to those people doing the school run and don't want to stand out but like to press on. I know my other half would prefer not to be driving an Impreza.

is she some kind of 'carist'?! wink how anyone can discriminate against a car on account of the size of it's exhaust and aggressive styling is sickening! lol

Manual gearbox and 40+ MPG combined will make this good
Why give it a manual? The Polo GTI is better for not having a manual option. This will be too.
A supermini with an automatic gearbox doesn't make sense for me, specially a performance-oriented one.

I can understand automatic gearboxes in 500bhp supercars - it might be hard to keep up with the car using a manual; I also perfectly understand autos in cruisers and executive saloons... but small hot hatches?

Drive a car with DSG, it'll all make sense.

not ideal for weekend or track toys but very desirable for daily runners, stick it in auto and go with the flow in traffic or chuck it in manual when your on a nice bit of empty road

then there's the fun of WOT gear changes even on bends, especially so when married to 4WD

Finally someone in Germany understands not everyone wants a Tiger tank with a massive engine. Unless you need to move lots of people or things this will be a cracking car to own. I think this could be my next car.

Now, Mr Volkswagen and Mr Audi, please please please can you make one of the regular colours something other than Mogadon Grey, narcolepsy Silver or comatose Black. Any colour found in the rainbow will be fine. Thank you.

A supermini where you change gear more often than a 500bhp Supercar makes far more sense to have a DSG style box (it's not an automatic as you state... It just has an automatic mode). The paddle shift in both the Polo GTI and S3 I have had were sublime. Best gearboxes I've used. Will never own a manual again in any car.

Sure it will be very impressive, but the photos arent grabbing me.

I think the Up! GT is potentially more significant in the scheme of things.

Because they can focus development on one gearbox. And also because they can't rip you off by adding the DSG as an expensive option that 99.9% of customers would tick.
To me the DSG can be excellent, but no matter how good it is, it won't replace a manual

Better in white than black. Even better in a bright metallic red or blue.

While the performance sounds fun, I can't help but feel disappointed at how tame it looks.

While some will like the subtle looks, and the "fun" that can be had leaving unsuspecting people who try and drive up your arse, I'd rather it have looked more agressive.

Going to have to enquire with the local dealer this weekend...

Which makes it silly me asking this question, but how is the leg room in the back? Got an 11 year old to cart around (though I doubt he'll ever make it over 5'9 lol).

Oh and fyi, I'm condisdering this or a hawkeye spec C can spend the saving on petrol and servicing, lol).

Sounds just a bit awesome smile

Be interested to see what the performance figures are like for the and the S1. Very much doubt the £21k price point though sadly.

Also hoping we'll see the UP GT makes its debut alongside!

Oh and I'd be more than happy if its DSG only. That gearbox is phenomenal and once you've experienced it there is no going back to Manual.

Haldex is FWD with drive shafts at the back. Not a fan, bring back the real quattro 4WD system I say.
