Ha ha, Brett's made a rare visit to the PH Mustang forum.

P.S. I was going to pop down this weekend but my car is too heavy/wide/long/slow/bad handling and the interior is so bad I can't get in it...

M.

ste I went a bit overboard there!

Did you need more duct tape to hold the dash together? I have a couple of spare rolls here. Can't leave home without it. If you had popped down, you would have had to have come in the van. There's no way you'd have made it that far in such a huge left hand drive.

The size thing makes me laugh. I used to own a Discovery 3 when everyone was up in arms about big vehicles and that they needed two parking spaces. bks biggrin The Disco was in fact shorter than a few saloons and most estates.

Quick bit of Wiki browsing has the 2014 Mustang as 24cms longer than an E90 BMW saloon and 6cms wider plus it is smaller than a Discovery which I had no problem threading through the narrow by ways of our green and pleasant land as well as the gridlocked traffic of London town.

Boy! I really want one cloud9

Here we go again....

Bulk? EXACTLY the same size as an XKR, upon which it is based, is the XKR "too bulky" for European roads?
A C6 Corvette is 13" shorter and 1" narrower, about the same size as a 911, or Maserati 4200.....

Ah, forgot, this IS PH. No need to check facts before posting.....
I will correct you on the XKR thing, it isn't based on it, its common misconception. My car is MOT'd and worked on (when I haven't got the tools and capabilities myself by an ex Jag mechanic, he says they look totally different underneath. Some parts are shared though, like the automatic gearbox which has a similar case (5R55S in the Mustang, 5R55N in the Jaguar S-Type) with altered internals, its also used in some of the Ford trucks too.
Jag S-Type and Mustang S197 use the same basic platform, although rather radically altered. The Lincoln LS and Ford T-Bird also shared this platform.

The XKR is completely different, I don't know what today's 2nd gen is built on, but the first one used an XJ-S derived platform which harks back to the original Jag XJ6. Suspect the current XK may still have it's origins here.

A quick google confirms that the only car using the Ford D2C platform is The 2005+ Ford Mustang and its various models. It shares only the floors, front frame rails, a section of the trans tunnel and part of the fuel tank design, so whilst it may share some parts they are about as alike as chalk and cheese.

The 2015 model will be different however as it has some weird suspension setup on the back - not too sure what it is though apparently the rear wheels can move independently confused

There are lots of parts shares on it though, the door handle mechanisms are the same as the Mazda 6!

Sorry I was too busy tapping the dash like you always do when you get in the car. Or is that Jeremy Clarkson (and understudy Richard Hammond) who does that?
