So more contemplating and procrastinating later...

The 306 rear beam is on its' way out and the drivers' side rear wheel is now touching the inner arch liner on compression. This is eventually going to wear the tyre.

My options are -
Buy a £50 beam second hand (all are going to be 13+ years old now) and the beam mounts @ £100 and fit it all - hoping that once it's on it doesn't have a similar issue
Buy a refurbished beam on an exchange basis @ £290 plus the mounts at £100 and justify keeping the car longer
Cut my losses and sell the car on for £900-1100ish now

At what point does a repair to a shed worth this much become an un-economical repair?

I'm sure I saw a thread on here recently in a similar vain.

Having had a 306 they don't cost much to run and swapping out for another more premium car will still have running costs that are higher.

If you still enjoy the 306 keep it and slap a refurb beam on it as spending £390 on it now may be cheaper than buying a good diesel 156.

Going from a 306 to a 156 (2.4JTDm 20V) you may find it drives a bit differently!

115k miles, no drama or failures other than expected consumables and a clutch, although I suspect my partners "mate" did something dodgy to kill that, he normally drives an auto. I love this car and as much as I'd love another Alfa (159Ti SW), I can't fault this one .. Bloody thing just keeps on giving, so I treated her to B6s all round for Christmas smile

A facelift Ti Sportwagon is the one to have.

The 1.9 16v gets you decent economy and great tuning potential.
The 2.4 10 or 20v is the pick of the bunch for outright grunt. Mapped it can shame a GTA.
