Oooh. £78k for an ugly car. Let me think about that for a nano-second. rolleyes
Which is a fair point. These things are still expensive after the big discount.

Let's face it, the cost of building these expensive cars isn't much higher than the cost of building their humbler relations. There's still profit in it for the manufacturer even with the "incentives".

Best value for money is often at the lower end of any range.

I'm sorry, but no BMW is worth that money (£103k). They're no longer a premium brand imo.
What brand is worth over 100k?.... an Audi!? Lol
Apparently a slightly warm Jag saloon laugh

Given Audi and BMW and Mercedes only really compete amongst themselves tells you what they consider to be their Premium competition. Funny how Jag and Range and whoever else aren't on that list...

No confusion here. It's no longer premium.
I recall doing some research for the Lexus IS Launch in 2005 and was surprised that BMW still considered themselves Premium back then - as they sold considerably more 3-Series in Europe, than Ford sold Mondeos wink

How strange. I wonder if they would chuck you a new 320d in free instead.

I'm thinking not. Shows how big the mark ups are!

It has only actually depreciated by around £1k.

There is a unregistered one at Elms Cambridge with a list price of, funnily enough, £103k.

They are ready to sell it for £71k provided its registered by month end.

Makes that one in the OP look expensive hehe

Manufacturers subsidy rather than dealer margin.

Liking the look of these in 6 months when the 640d goes back in the summer....

Quick spec on BMW.co.uk suggests this was about £103,000 list with competition pack which is nuts, but they are heading nicely in the right direction! £30k lost in about 2 tanks of fuel!!

There cars with a few thousand miles on for down as low as 55k too.
Never seen those wheels before...

Look awesome.

Really wanted the F10 M5 before I've got my current E92 M3 but the prices are holding rather well but if the M6 drops to mid 30k in 2 years time I might be really interested.
Depending on which M6...try this 36000 miler for £20k

That looks like a nice example. Lovely car and love tech inside etc but I just can't live with the SMG box for everyday use.

The current walk up discount on an M6 is £27,566.88 (£18,000 from BMW + £9,566.88 from dealer). This is shown on every single BMW dealers website under Current Offers - New Car Offers (go check your local, it'll be there). Should be possible to get another £1500-£2000 depending on spec, so nearly £30k total.

So true new price is around £65k. A lot of car/performance for the money.

Were it not for the Competition Package, that car would have actually appreciated at that price wink

What mpg are you getting from the 640?
I havent reset it since i bought it. When first got it I'd stick it in eco mode, but that novelty quickly become boring!

With no effort, mixed driving and "enjoying" the car, it has a 21,000 mile reading of 39.2mpg.

I checked the computer by measuring fill to fill a few times and it was pretty accurate.

I think for a relatively large GT car, over 300bhp, that's pretty bloody good.

Real word if you potter along at 65 it will do 50mpg+. Pretty amazing I think.
That is staggeringly good! BMW do seem to have an amazing ability to extract decent economy from a large engines of late. I would adore a car that offers the drive of my E39 with half the running costs, perhaps a 640i GC might be on the list (in the far future).

Indeed! The petrol V8s are equally surprisingly good, which is why I wrote 'i'.
Coupe: Urban / Extra-Urban / Combined (mpg), from BMW's UK brochure

640d: 40.9 / 57.6 / 50.4
640i: 26.2 / 47.1 / 36.2

Although on the strength of your data the figures are optimistic, I think a combined figure of 36 for the petrol V8 is still pretty good IMO. If I wanted a D I'd have to deeply consider a Panamera diesel.

Not a chance.

The "depreciation" is therefore nothing like as steep as it seems.

It's worth getting out of bed for 500bhp in the M6.

Jesus H Christ - How to devalue your brand in one fell swoop!!!!

Never have liked BMW - a triumph of marketing over engineering and value for money (...and complete indifference to the entire concept of customer service, in my experience)
