Appreciate all advise so far.

Clearly he wont be giving anyone any money, deposits or otherwise over the phone / internet e.t.c

I have seen plenty of car scams over the years and pretty familiar with the various types of con out there, this one just seemed different. Have googled the phone and email as suggested by others and nothing has come up.

The photos that have been emailed, apparently because he struggled to upload to gumtree seem genuine and a viewing is arranged for this afternoon.

It seems 80% dodgy, 20% possibly genuine.

My main concern or thinking was that.....

The seller (if real!) is not very good at using the computer, couldnt manage to upload his photos to the site and found a google image and used that instead.

He said he wants a part ex to downgrade his car and free up some cash

The emailed pictures all seem genuine and were dated by a time stamp from the camera for the time and date as requested from us showing interior, exterior and mileage and clocks.

We'll go check it out, and if we get kneecapped / our car stolen and left in the rain, I'll let you all know!
You seem determined to get ripped off. Why even bother continuing wasting time with this?

Nobody selling a £20k car is going to lift a random pic from the net - they're going to ask their kid/nephew/teenager next door to spend 2 minutes doing it for them. They're also not going to refuse to speak to people on the phone... they might give you a say 6pm-9pm window to call in if they are genuinely busy at work.

It'll be some African sitting on the village PC in Lagos... thats why he can't take a voice call. But go and waste your time if you like.

The pictures from here;

http://www.trusteddealers.co.uk/used-audi-a5-51932...

Private seller taking a part ex for much less than the car's worth? Pushing for immediate sale because he's 'moving'? It's a scam.

The '80/20' comment above makes me think you're going to get done despite all of the advice. The world's full of fking normal spec Audis, why chance it with this one?

A mobile number starting 0772 is not a mobile number issued by the normal UK phone providers, it will be issued by someone along the lines of Libera etc

Photoshopping photos isn't that unusual - my local BMW main dealer have an M3 Coupe for sale at the moment, where the photos of the car have been photoshopped to have some nice greenery and what looks like a park in the background of the shot.

Clearly a photoshop though, as the "bandstand" featured in the photos is part of the park in Shrewsbury town centre, and there's nowhere to park a car anywhere near it.

Really? My 07722 number started life on a Virgin sim, but is now legitimately ported to an Orange contract.

It's like saying a car for sale in Yorkshire must be dodgy because the number plate doesn't start with a Y.

All dealers are to be 100% trusted and they would never photoshop.

This thread was pretty pointless really, wasn't it?

It beggars belief that anyone would even contemplate dropping TWENTY THOUSAND POUNDS on a car that has been advertised like this one has, let alone ask PH for advice and then ignore all of it.
