Having read, and let`s be honest here, along with most guys on here literally thousands of adverts what are the most memorable in terms of `obviously fabricated`?

I mean, if you`re selling your car you`re selling your car. I know some people (myself included in this bracket) won`t entertain a car that`s been recently bought or had 5 owners in a year.

A couple of common reasons are;

Pregnancy forces sale ( but really only had it 3 weeks and the automatic box sometimes doesn`t change).

Just bought it and the wife can`t drive it (mentions further on in the ad there`s a light on the dash and there `sadly` isn`t any service history nor V5).

Great car but need a van for work (why buy a Z4 with mismatched panels only 2 months ago?)

What I`m getting as it the less believable stories like......

Someone selling their rotten 1995 Mondeo diesel sitting in their litter strewn garden but have miraculously been awarded a `company car`.

Anyone care to add?

A lot of driveway traders are selling cars on behalf of their dead mother/grandmother.

Bought it for my girlfriend but she doesn't like the colour.

Main gripe is when people claim to be private selling and they are really a trader. I don't mind but just wish they would be honest as sometimes you end up thinking it could be a ringer or something a bit more untoward.

"Too powerful for me / wife / girlfriend etc"

Never understood that one, cars have pedals and gears. You don't drive flat out everywhere...

Especially when it is used on something daft like a 1.9 130 Passat or similar.

I brought a car, I owned it for 6 weeks before I got bored with it and sold the car, completely genuine and nothing wrong with the car, I've owned 23 cars in the last 12 years.

New car forces sale.

I've never quite understood that one. A new car forced itself upon you?

Slightly off topic but I'm seeing a lot of
'future classic, get it while you can and the prices are low.'
Hmmm so why doesn't the seller hold on to it a bit longer and make a killing on it?

Fair enough, but they normally mention the 'company' bit in that case. You could be right though I suppose.

I've never found being brutally honest any problem. When I sold my Golf SDI it was because it was dangerously slow. Pulling out of a petrol station on the A63 was only achievable by waiting for a ten mile gap between me and the next car down the road. The advert read as such and it was sold in a week to a young chap who's dad thought it was perfect for him.

Noticed a few 'emigrating this week' excuses lately. One was for a Golf R32 for £750.

I'm going to be in this boat soon...

When my company car arrives in 3 months or so i'm going to sell my Prius (... yes, a Prius - insert jokes here!). The reason for sale will be because I will have no reason to keep my current car at all. So when I put on the advert that it is for sale due to company car arriving, I won't be lying, that's the genuine reason. I've only had the car for one year, will this make it look bad? - probably, but again, that's the genuine reason for sale.

My point is that there are some acceptions to the rule (like myself)

:-)

They can't afford a car. They have to spend the money on a designer pram and nappies for the brat.

That's the only one that I don't like. To me it screams 'I've bitten off more than I can chew.'

So straight away I think it has something big hidden.

All the others I'm not too bothered about, I'd still just go and buy with my head.

This thread reminds me of the viral GSX-R Autotrader advert, something along the lines of "the girlfriend saying 'buy what the F**K you like' didn't actually mean what I thought it meant"

hehe

Always better to ask for forgiveness rather than permission.
