I really hope that the M235 and M2 are a huge success. Anything to get the value of the M135 down before the end of my lease!?

I rented a crappy 118d recently and even that had M badges all over it.

BMW M is more diluted than Audi's RS and Merc's AMG.

BMW M was the first to start getting diluted, wasn't it?

So you've not seen Audi S-Line trim on many cars then?
Or AMG badges on C220 CDIs?

Spiritual successor to the E30 M3 to arrive 30 years after the original car. Hmmmmm.....
Another spiritual successor? Isn't this the spiritual successor to the 1M?

S-Line is not RS. You won't see an RS badge on anything other than an RS car.

I wonder much power they could get from an N20?

Ok, you're absolutely right, the M badge is diluted, and I think Audi preserved their S/RS badges much better because you usually just get that S-line thingy and not the proper badge.

However... what I meant was that you now got to wear an M badge on your M135i as opposed to the first generation 135i. Since they're both performance oriented cars they truly deserve the badge... or at least they deserve it more than a 118d with design packs.

Unless they improve on the electric steering how can it end up being better than the 1M?
With the previous gen Z4, they fitted a hydraulic setup just for the "M" version. Hopefully they'll do the same here. smile

I still think the odds are far more likely on the M2 getting a twin-turbo ///M spec version of the 2.0L 4 cyl engine rather than a 'detuned' S55.
BMW will want to be seen to be 'competing' technically, with the 350+hp 4 cyl AMG engine in the A45, and a 'detuned' S55 powered M2 will likely be too close in performance to the M3/M4 for BMW's comfort, and these are the hints buried in the marketing bullst posts from BMW Marketing on various BMW forums.

It also follows the theme from the cyl downsizing of the other models, and would give the marketing option of reborn E30 M3 4 cyl ///M heritage etc.,etc.

I actually agree, but if it's lighter than the M235 & has a bit more power and a 'proper' (whatever that means heherolleyes) ///M pedigree and drives like we hope it will, does it really matter...?

Plus, that's an internet render, not from BMW. They'd never make the front as massive as that.

I can not say but considering the fact that they have held their value so well (and I am certain will begin to appreciate in the next 10 years) can only mean that they did.

There is a good reason for that, it was very much a purist car. As it should be, BMW have not made anything close in those terms since.
