RE: BMW M2 for 2016
Discussion
I struggle to get excited tbh. All sounds good on paper, but in reality.. If BMW could just pause, take a deep breath, rewind, and go back to putting in some effort into their 'performance' drivers-machines then the M2 could be the opportunity to put 'MPower back on the table. fk off handing out M badges to anything with 19" wheels, M bodykit, and a remapped ecu. Lets have more cars that keep you on your toes - both feet, both hands, both eyes. Cars the 'driver' drives. It worries me BMW are thinking it's not ALL about R&D anymore but merely a big bright badge (M) and a set of statistics to throw at it's rivals.

making it a true CSL would certainly sway my mind.
How well did the E46 CSL sell? There is a good reason for that, it was very much a purist car. As it should be, BMW have not made anything close in those terms since.
BMW know that their isn't a market for them in hardcore cars, so no point offering something that will only be bought by a few people. Majority over minority.

The engineers need to skulk off again and do something themselves without the accountants and marketing "gurus" looking over their shoulder all the time. Some of the best cars have come about from the sneaky approach shavenhaven said:

What are you talking about? Think we need a few more details (lol) and a actual drive to see if it lives up to the 1M.I also wish people would stop thinking that the market for any of these new M cars are ultra macho guys who want their M cars to kill them on their way into the office.....
If you want a hairy car any of the German big 3 have a wider market for their halo cars than those who dream about driving characteristics like TVRs of old or E30 M3's.
Get a grip!

Hang on a sec, 'Detuned engine'? Does that mean that it's the same engine as the M4 and the same weight, just tuned for less power? I don't mean to be a cynic but that strikes me as somewhat ridiculous.
Nothing's been confirmed yet, it's just media speculation that the M2 will get a 'detuned' version of the M3/M4 S55 engine. As I posted earlier, I'm not convinced that this will be the case, I think it's much more likely that the M2 will get a bespoke ///M developed twin-turbo version of the 2.0L 4 cyl engine, which is what is being 'hinted' at from within BMW.

The photo above was sent to me by a mate who works for BMW - he's on the M2 project and assures me that that's the real deal. About 355bhp, and €55k.
That'll mean about 380hp in reality then going by the typical underrating of recent ///M turbo engines is anything to go by.1M was 'rated' at 340hp and most dyno around 25hp more than that
