I think this term is a little out of date, I know three Barry's and they respectively drive, a Mercedes M Class (standard), Automatic Toyate Avensis (Standard) and some kind of Korean Shoping Hatch whose name escapes me but used to have an immaculate S Type Jag of the original ilk (Both Standard).

Barrys tend to be older chaps nowadays and generally drive, from what I can see, standard examples of normal cars and do not fit the stereotype of a badly modified hatchback, Japanese Coupe or old Rally Rep.

So, we need a new name as Barry seems to have retired.

Could it be that "barry" is a phase you grow out of and your barry mates are old now?

I've never known a Barry into modified cars.
Plenty of Gaz's and Daz's, but never a Barry with a Saxo or whatever the stereotype was.

The only link I remember was the barryboy website, which I could imagine is now filled with more tales of being blinded by DRLs than modded cars.

Confused - I always thought Barry'd referred to Barry island and was another word for chav'd.

or am I missing the ironic tone of the OP

That's what I thought, It might be related to there, but I never knew that Barry Island was a hot spot for cars, especially compared to Southend seafront etc.

That would be extremely appropriate, though it doesn't really roll off the tongue. Maybe an acronym is the answer, PYF'd.

As per the OP

Fairly sure i saw him driving round in a 944 - Standard suspension, 19" Dotz wheels from Halfrauds, Lexus lights, His initials, a bullet hole and a horse all in plastic chrome adorned to the rear.
