Any news on a big diesel? The C350 CDI would be missed!
Quite. We would never have bought our C-class if it wasn't for the V6 - soooo much nicer than the rattly 4-pots.

I also think the stuck-on-iPad thing looks like an afterthought - what were they thinking?!

Interesting point made on Autocar today, that the new C-Class has a 41-litre fuel tank as standard (in Europe). This helped keep the 'wet' weight down and improve mpg and emissions in the official tests. A 66-litre tank is optional, and is rumoured it'll be standard in the UK.

Absolute farce.

Have they done the same ?
Not really, on the BMW is seems to flow with the dash, whereas on the Merc it looks like an afterthought.

My guess is it allows savings on the lesser equipped models, as the manufacturer isn't wasting material on a fairing for a minute or unusable screen, plus they only have to make two versions of a dashboard (LHD, RHD) instead of the 4 that were in the old E90 for example. IMO

The biggest issue for me with the current C-Class is the complete lack of rear legroom. I'm 6'6" and if I adjust the seat so that I can actually operate the controls there's only space behind me for people with 2D legs! Not great as a family car, so I wonder if this incarnation is any better.

At this rate I could be going for another CC when it comes time to replace this one as none of the C-Class, A4 or 3 Series set come close to it on space, equipment, value or style IMO!

I'm really not sure about it's bottom. It appears to have stolen the arse off a Phantom.

Yes, it's a way of "working within" the rules. It's a great way of "saving weight"...

I'd be most interested to know if the body panels are no longer made of cheese, and the brake discs aren't made of milk bottle tops.
So it must be common. I couldn't believe it when my front discs were finished after 20K miles I have never got through discs at that rate before. I was even a bit sheepish when I took it into Mercedes to tell them the brakes were in a bad way after such a short time...(I had just come back from taking it over the alps.)
I had to replace rear discs, pads and calipers at 2 years and 20,000 miles. And got no help from Merc. "They're service/regular replacement items !!".
1st MOT and less than 30,000 miles - both track rod ends. Also bushes in rear suspension shot.
Worst car I've ever owned. But have they improved ?

Is that also why air conditioning is a 'no cost option' on the new F56 Mini Cooper and Cooper D?

Yep. No aircon means less strain on the ancilliaries, means more mpg and less CO2 for the official tests.

To be honest, they both look like there is an ipad shaped slot on the dash which, funnily enough, someone has plonked their ipad into.

It's not particularly well integrated. The BMW certainly looks like a large portion of the screen should be below the level of the dash vents...

Hope they have a decent range of non-leather fabrics for the interior. Getting annoyed with only being offered dead animal interiors.

Its better than having some hideously outdated Command system when the car is 5 years old though.

There was a time when the C-Class was undoubtedly the premium product of the three. Quite a firm last place now, IMO.

It’s funny because whilst searching for a new commute car I’ve been going around all the dealers. The Audi salesman, who looked like a camp, slightly psychotic Sir Clive Sinclair, tried to convince me – actually no very bluntly told me that Audi were the premium brand nowadays. “We’re the brand people want on their drive” he said “Number one premium car brand in the UK. Mercedes and BMW are well behind us and here’s your monthly price for the A4 Avant - £50 dearer than the BMW you’ve mentioned but £50 is nothing is this market segment and of course it’s an Audi.”

My experience is somewhat different though. The Audi A4 felt only a little better than a Skoda Octavia just with a better interior.

The BMW 3 Series – so, so.... Quite dull looking unless you really threw some money on the options.

The current C-Class I think on pure looks beats the A4 and 3 Series. Not driven one yet, that’s tomorrow, but the new C-Class will I think smash the A4 and maybe draw some from the 3 Series. In fact a wander around the Mercedes dealership had me lusting after just about every model. I couldn’t say that having walked around Audi and BMW.

I'm quite keen on getting a better look at one. I've had A4's and 3 Serise as company cars, and as good as there are I fancy a change.

Whether or not our lease company can get them on the list in time for an October delivery will be the problem.

I'd wager that in real terms is actually quite a bit cheaper than the equivalent Merc back in the early 90s.

Slightly irrelevant but also on topic, completely agree with that.

I have the 350 CDI in my E Class Estate (W212 2013 model) and it is a beautiful engine. Apart from AMG's, the best engine (IMO) Mercedes produce.

Mercedes C Classes have man made Artico leather in which doesn't feel like a dead animal has been within a mile of it.
