I know many people would say it does not matter but I just can't get to grips with the interior. It's not classically beautiful like an old Ferrari, nor is it fresh and modern. It's a dog's dinner of hard scratchy plastic. I just could not bring myself to pay big money to sit in something like that, regardless of how good it drives.
To be fair though mate, the 997 is hardly a masterpiece either. The interior remains the same as every 911 before it. Functional. It's the driving experience that matters.Mk1 and the 96RS, two of the greatest 911s/drivers cars of all time. Possibly THE greatest for some and never again will cars like this be made, cars this connected, this raw, this devoid of nannies and driver assistance, this rewarding for the keen driver.

My P&J !
Still worth what I paid for it last year (less than the 996 GT3 in the advert)
I dont think I will ever sell it!
An AWESOME machine that is comfortable on the motorway and then an animal when you want to play!
FWIW, I think my money (hypothetically, if I had any) - in terms of the balance of performance, usability, price, interior comfort - would be on something almost identical to this.Still worth what I paid for it last year (less than the 996 GT3 in the advert)

Less exclusive than an RS 997, but then you pay less and there's a bit more comfort and what you miss out on, you won't really care unless you buy it as a trackday weapon. Not as raw as a 996, but then the dash and interior is, IMHO, significantly better and, from that rear 3/4 view, the back end on the 997 is more resolved.

Agree! 60k will look cheap pretty soon IMO
The 996 GT3 (and RS) will be worth more in the future and they are more revered as a drivers car but for my usage (99% on the road) my 997.1 GT3 fits the bill perfectly.
I honestly think the 996 GT3 is currently the cheapest it will ever be! The 997 is s-l-o-w-l-y going up in value but I dont think it will ever be as coveted as the 996.

Not the best example, but...
if you get a proper specc'ed 996 - its will provide a fantastic driving experiance.
It will never be a Gt3, but its by no means a different car in feel.
996 spec's that make then:
M030 suspension thats not worn.
LSD.
The power pack that takes then up to 320bhp ish.
Very good cars for the all the stick they get, and im certainly not intending on selling mine. Even after driving a Gt3 996, and several 997's.
From my experience I would say they are very different in feel, but this is not to say the Carrera is bad, just different.if you get a proper specc'ed 996 - its will provide a fantastic driving experiance.

Can I just throw something in here....
....Is £45K for a GT2 (TWO) not now looking attractive?
I am no Porsche expert, more a Munich Metal afficionado, but if the "Rawness" of the Gen 1 / 996 in general, and the absense of driver aids is so attractive, then are GT2s not liable to become pretty desirable too?
I do realise they are no NA, but notwithstanding that, am I missing something....?

996 GT2's are definitely gaining an ever increasing following for sure, and if you can find a good one for £45K then it's a safe bet in my opinion.....Is £45K for a GT2 (TWO) not now looking attractive?

As many people have found out while searching for a good 996 GT3, finding a good GT2 can be even harder though - alot of rough ones out there!

This featured car's price is very much an outlier. The PH classifieds show some other cars to put it in context:
- Mk1 LHD for £29k (just had a price drop)
- Mk2 yellow Clubsport for £35k (just had a price drop)
- Mk1 with lots of Manthey bits for £43k (been for sale for a fair while, I believe)
£60k is not the new normal (yet!).
But, none of these are a MK1 Clubsport !- Mk1 LHD for £29k (just had a price drop)

- Mk1 with lots of Manthey bits for £43k (been for sale for a fair while, I believe)

An awesome car and I LOVE the colour! So, mk1 Gt3s are out of the question, so I think def the mk1 997 GT3 is going to become a great investment. Chris Harris loves those too as I recall! Said he would take one over the equivalent turbo, but would take the 996 turbo over the 996 GT3. FWIW, I think the 996 turbo is the best value 911 out there right now and yes I am a petrol head and I love both GT3 and turbo...both have their place.Still worth what I paid for it last year (less than the 996 GT3 in the advert)

If/when Mk1 Clubsports do indeed get to the £60k level, it brings into play the 70-odd Mk1 Clubsports in Australia (which are currently starting around £55k equivalent). When it becomes cost effective to import the Aussie cars to the UK that will put the brakes on the value increases a bit.
Still a rare car though. And an awesome one.
