Chaps,

I have an OBDII reader, which reads petrol cars from 2001>.

Just found out that diesels didn't change over until 2004> so mine will not fit a friends' 2002 diesel Astra.

Does anyone know if the pedal check works on these models? I used to have a Vectra C and if you did a few things with the ignition/pedals etc it would tell you the code by flashing the MFD?

Cheers

Pretty sure the pedal check won't work. It will have the OBDII socket though, behind gear stick, so no harm in trying your reader.

Brake and accelerator pedals to the floor, turn the ignition on but do not start the engine. Keep pedals fully pressed and the engine management light car with spanner light will start flashing.

10 flashes is a zero, 1 = 1 etc. It will pause between numbers and pause longer between codes. When it stops flashing there are no more codes. If it flashes constantly, there are no codes. Do it a few times to make sure you get the right code each time (it's harder to read than newer Vauxhalls that put the code in the mileage display)

Does work on a 2002 Astra.

Won't it be the wrong type of socket?

thumbup - used it to successfully diagnose an O2 sensor on a car I was trading a few weeks ago, garage that fitted the exhaust had left the one under the car unplugged by accident.

It was a 2002, albeit 1.6 petrol but it should be the same on a diesel

Ah gotcha, however diesels didn't take the OBDII connector until 2004, unlike the petrols in 2001

Astra's had the correct *connector* from about 1994 (mk3 shape), but weren't OBDII compliant (in the language sense) till 2001 and a few years later for diesel.
It might not talk to it, but the connector will fit.
If you've got a reader that plugs into a laptop, search for "opcom", its brilliant.
Maybe ask in the Vx forum in case someone local to you has it.
What's the fault?
