Does 'too involved for road use' mean that a normal driver couldn't balance throttle and clutch properly? If so, and as both a useless driver and a guy who can only dream about cars like these, I like the idea of an intimidating 911. I think that it would be a real shame if Porsche has decided that the GT3 should be an accessible road car; I always thought that that was the role of the post-930 turbos.
Awesome video, half an hour just flew by! Those roads are the main reason it's not to hard to persuade me to drive from Herefordshire up to the other half's parents in Llandudno.

Errr... Porsche 911 is a 50 year old design with a few facelifts along the way.I have had my v12v (manual) for a little while and can't see anything else i would like in this price range.
I had gt3s and they are too intense for me. Road noise is a pita as well.
Well of course the Porka is ahead of the other two it is supposed to be. However I would rather date a sophisticated beautiful and less expensive girl with manners and a beautiful voice than one who is slightly better in bed, has a huge arse, sounds aweful when she opens her mouth and drains my wallet. So no Porka then. Aston every time.
Great review from CH. I think, this is far more what I'd personally like to see - a comparison of cars on the road as well as track.
The detail of CH's feedback on the cars, especially the AM was impressive and from what I gathered, it gives more feedback and is more beautiful than the other two; it is equally fun to drive and has the stonking V12 engine note match. For me, someone more interested in driving to Italy via the South of France and back through Switzerland, this IS the car to have.
The GT3 seems great as a track weapon, but too hard and lacking in feedback through all the senses compared to the AM (although its engine is without doubt a gem).
CH chose the GT3 because, well, he loves Porsche GT3s -he has been involved in racing these cars in the past.
Fair enough, but the AM is arguably the more special car here, despite having the robot manual.

A543 near llyn Aled. Can anyone point this out on a map?
Resurfaced with loose chipping a in past year means it's fine in a car but a horrible twitchy nightmare on a motirbike although it is improving as it packs down.
Nice bit of road in a car though. Tarmac further north is lovely though.

Having driven the yellow Aston featured..and owning a 7.2 GT3RS...the Aston makes a strong case for itself..the V12 is truly a wondrous, sonorous thing...and the Automated Manual works well..if you work with it...for instance, lifting/rolling on change up...the chassis ...even given the 1650kg..is surprisingly responsive...and communicativeThe detail of CH's feedback on the cars, especially the AM was impressive and from what I gathered, it gives more feedback and is more beautiful than the other two; it is equally fun to drive and has the stonking V12 engine note match. but ultimately that weight and age of the design...works again this very best of the Aston stable
the 911 has its roots in a 50yo design..but unlike the Aston...the VW has benefited from significant and sustained fettling/enhancement/investment..a true triumph of persistent engineering enhancement overcoming the original design limitations...you can recognise the DNA..but the expression of it has been well and truly nurtured.
