Great video Chris

I watch this and so want the the GT3. Then I get to the point that Chris points out, on the road, full beans in 2nd or 3rd is .....we'll, seriously too fast. Then I remember my 997 GT3. The reason I sold it was because to get a buzz you needed to cane it, and similar to Chris's observation....hmmmm, licensing losing.

Sorry but too fast for the road and not enough thrills at normal road speeds. Phew , that saves me £100k I haven't got wink
That is why i bought the Cayman S - it is perfectly geared for the UK roads and half the price but more than half as fast.

Fantastic video.

To the armchair experts, the 991 GT3 is just a fantastic machine and as people who love cars and driving that's all there is to say.

Too fast for the road, poor steering in the wet (eh?), rear steer, manual blah blah.

It is simply an insane thing. Way quicker than 475bhp has a right to be, in fact I don't believe the power figure at all. Agile, amazing brakes, and the noise! I get out of mine after every drive just fizzing with excitement and a huge grin.

Even now several weeks after taking delivery, I go out to the garage, shall I take the GTO, or the GTO, or the 16M? No, I'll take the GT3.

Was window shopping and found a manual white V12V for £80K. Couldn't possibly justify or afford it but if I could!

Great vid CH. Im normally quick to criticise the mix of track vs real world info but this vid nailed it. All 3 cars are beyond my means, but this vid took me into the cockpit of each.

I will say one thing though, I have seen and read some truly pathetic attempts to try and play-down the job of Performance Car Motoring Journo, but the 5 second effort at the start of this vid truly plumbed new depths of woe-is-me crapulence. Blasting across Wales? In those 3? To Anglesey? But has to get up at half five? Dry your eyes princess. I don't think your day will be too terrible. biggrin

Agree. Now if he had another job on top of putting the motoring video's together I'd understand. m

Who ever would have thought the GT3 seemed cheap ! Not only is it a lot cheaper to buy I'd wager it would be worth more than the other two in three years time too.

I wonder if the GT3 is now a genuine 7 day a week car rather than a sublime Sunday morning weapon? Presumably it's possible with the new 'box and suspension in normal road it's relatively user friendly.

So still the novelty Andrew or is it genuinely a better drive than either of the Ferraris ?

High praise indeed.I reckon in all honesty that just about every GT3 is the perfect "recreation car" for a tour or a sunday blast. With an X pipe to let you hear it properly the RS is IMHO better to have a blat in than my Scud was.

Love the video thumbup

Heart would win out over head for me, so it would be the Aston over the Porsche. Unlikely to ever be in the position to make that choice though hehe

All wonderful cars ,I have no doubt the gt3 is the best to drive, but the Aston is such a lovely looking thing, which will in the real world be quicker ,yes it's slower but you get let out at junctions in the Aston,in the Porsche you'd have to wait ten minutes.;)

Having driven the yellow Aston featured..and owning a 7.2 GT3RS...the Aston makes a strong case for itself..the V12 is truly a wondrous, sonorous thing...and the Automated Manual works well..if you work with it...for instance, lifting/rolling on change up...the chassis ...even given the 1650kg..is surprisingly responsive...and communicative

but ultimately that weight and age of the design...works again this very best of the Aston stable

the 911 has its roots in a 50yo design..but unlike the Aston...the VW has benefited from significant and sustained fettling/enhancement/investment..a true triumph of persistent engineering enhancement overcoming the original design limitations...you can recognise the DNA..but the expression of it has been well and truly nurtured.
A very fair assessment I think.
I do really wonder when you see the 'triumph of development over design' stuff mindlessly repeated by so-called enthusiasts. The 911's 'design limitations' are the ones that allowed it to win Le Mans, the Monte Carlo Rally, the Daytona 24hr, the Targa Florio and the Paris Dakar rally. Porsche used the rear engined, torsion-barred, air-cooled, all alloy horizontally opposed engine layout in the Beetle for very good and well considered reasons, to do with packaging, structural integrity, reliability, aero, braking and traction. That was a clean sheet of paper design, and it made perfect sense to carry the same concept over into the 356 and 911.

Meanwhile, the Aston Martin's 'design limitations' mean it has no traction in the wet, weighs 1750kgs and has no interior space.

I thought the 911s racing success was due to its reliability rather than it being better dynamically than the competition ,but anyway design wise the porsche is designed to allow you to go as fast as possible, astons are designed to make you feel as good as possible.Anyone who has any one of these cars is lucky, the concept of one being better than the rest is really just willy waving nonsense because they are all brilliant cars, some work better on track, some work better on road, some make you feel better, some thrill you more .
If you have any of these cars you have a great car end of.

I love it but it's an odd car. I wonder what the demographic of Mercs customers dropping 100k+ on their cars is? I'll wager 20 years older than those of us who like massive wings and splitters.

It's a great car to drive, and on UK roads I believe it would eat the Ferraris for breakfast. It is narrower, you can place it with more confidence, the suspension does a better job of keeping the body composed over bumpy roads, it has mega traction, is nimbler thanks in part to rear steer, and the brakes are better (except for the 599 gto's).

I'm comparing hairs breadths though - 16M for a sunny day, 599 GTO for sheer grunt, sense of occasion, and ultimately soundtrack, etc.

The 911 is just a car you can drive whatever the mood takes you, and always leaves you wanting more.
