Looking for a car for a female friend, here are the requirements:
- Budget around £5k
- Small hatch
- Will be used for city driving
- Relatively sensible/economical to run
- Heated seats
- Parking sensors (obviously... wink)
- Electronic/MP3 gadgetry
- Either manual or auto, prefereably auto I guess since it will be used in London
- Probably petrol (to avoid DPF issues)
etc. I think you get the idea.

My thoughts would be an Audi A3, 1 series, Mini or Golf/Polo (yawn), any other ideas?

Something Japanese so she won't have to worry too much about servicing it!

I bought a Polo GTi (9n3) in your budget. Easy 30+ MPG around town, 40+ on the Motorway. Relatively comfy, heated seats, parking sensors. Decent stereo, well screwed together.

Kinda ticks your boxes, but it's as dull as it gets. If I had my time again I'd probably look get getting a Clio 182/197 of some description.

There doesn't seem to be many about, but a Volvo C30 seems to fit the bill rather well.

Some good suggestions so far! Like the idea of a sporty Clio but are they actually reliable and refined cars?
