Speeding worse than drug taking? Public opinion.

Drug taking only really affects those who do it, to a point - weed really only does affect the user but some drugs like heroin obviously has knock-on effects.
Speeding directly impacts the safety of others.
Simple?
Er? where do these druggies get the money from to feed their disgusting habit.Anybody that has to resort to taking/smoking/injecting something to get them through the day are just the saddest form of life next to kiddie fiddlers.Speeding directly impacts the safety of others.

Maybe from their jobs? Not everyone that takes drugs is a trainspotting addict, just like not everyone who speeds is doing 130mph past a school...eddy02 said:

Kiddie fiddlers are not all bad...at least they slow down when they drive past schools eddy02 said:

Oh dear oh dear....
Either some top trolling or you've had the daily mail intravenously injected.

I was amazed when discussing drugs with my work colleagues, who have smoked pot, taken cocaine, heroin, extasy (sp?), speed, and other illegal and dangerous drugs...... Said my 'speeding' is worse.
Where do you work!? I know people who have taken ecstacy and i've smoked pot but heroin!?
It's an opinion. That is all.
I personally don't see a reason why drugs like ecstacy are illegal, given that most of the few deaths that do occur are due to people not knowing what they are taking.
Do I think that speeding is worse that taking any drug? That depends on how fast and what drug?
It's not black and white. Doing 150 mph past a school is a lot worse that smoking a joint. The big issue with drugs is the other behaviours that result, such as neglecting children and crime to fund the habit.

Depends on your perspective.
Hypothetically - If you lose control of your car (or bike) and wipe out my nearest and dearest; and I found out you have a habit of speeding...
Then there is nowhere on this planet that you and your family will be safe.
I would make it a mission to remove from this earth what you love the most.
Still have a heavy right foot?
Likewise if you were a drug dealer (or introduced someone to drugs) and your filthy trade caused the death of a friend or family.Hypothetically - If you lose control of your car (or bike) and wipe out my nearest and dearest; and I found out you have a habit of speeding...
Then there is nowhere on this planet that you and your family will be safe.

Most of the drug arguments are based around what happens if the recreational drug user becomes an addict, dealer or pusher.
For the most part taking recreational drugs in a safe environment can be roughly compared to a track day.
It's expensive, it's fun, there's a degree of risk.
Speeding at a track day is fine too.
But, speeding on the roads, amongst traffic and pedestrians is dangerous to others.
Now, I'm guessing the mates aren't talking about speeding being a little bit over.
For the conversation to go that way I'm guessing the OP has a reputation as a bit if a boy racer, or perhaps indulges in street racing.

I'm not sure that the degree of risk involved in taking certain recreational drugs is any more than other perfectly legal activities that are not considered risky at all.For the most part taking recreational drugs in a safe environment can be roughly compared to a track day.

We've lost. The soppy speed kills message has got to them, and drugs are okay now. Apparently.
In my life, I never had a smash due to excess mph. My colleagues have taken properly bad stuff,.yet how do they imagine they are less criminal then me?
Help me understand please.
They are correct, IMO. Both are perfectly safe if done prudently, but if done unsafely speeding is dangerous to others, drug taking isn't.We've lost. The soppy speed kills message has got to them, and drugs are okay now. Apparently.

There's literally nothing wrong at all with taking drugs, IMO, so they're correct.

That's my point.
Sure, abuse of drugs can lead down a dark path.
But the fact the blokes in the conversation had jobs and friends and seemed to be aware of themselves then it's no more risky than a weekend drinker becoming an alcoholic.
If there is an injury;
Recreational drug use normally only causes injury to oneself.
Speeding often causes injury to others.
