Fuelly is not really a great place too look. And I don't think the op is claiming a MEAN average of 37mpg, just that it can attain it.
This. I once got a whopping 27mph out of an RX8 on a long run, after all.....
That's not very fast. wink

A 25mpg average and 37mpg on a long, slowish motorway run sounds believable to me?
Off to the classifieds for me then...I barely get 35 at 80 on a run in my 2.0t!
Don't go into buying one for economy. But they are able to offer up sensible fuel costs vs the performance.

For instance I've got a 2.0 Turbo Impreza with 215hp and a 5.7 LS1 V8 with 360hp. For the same usage the V8 is 1-3mpg better than the Impreza as well as making over half as much hp again.

Last top up I worked out I had done 23 MPG. Thats in a Camaro though with the same LS1 and 6 speed box.

Commuting to work, sitting in traffic and a 8 mile dual carriage way stint at normal speeds.

I still think thats impressive for a 5.7l V8 with 350 bhp.

I had 32 MPG on the run back from Scotland when I picked the car up.

To put it into context my wifes IS250 6 speed manual is getting similar economy!

Utterly brilliant. Well done. Another one to the classifieds!

At 22 I had a BMW 325i E36. Which was rubbish btw.

Now that's more like it from 'carpool'.

Well done sir, great write up.

Epic car to be a custodian of at 22! I may too, be heading towards the classifieds!

Great carpool. Hat's off for being a true pistonhead even after all the talk of MPG.
American cars have always been a guilty pleasure for me but now I can keep a straight face at the thought of actually owning one.

I think you miss the point. He only managed to do a long run, because 27mph was the only speed at which the car could make it between fuel stations.

Do wonder if that mpg calculation is down to a miscalculation of us and imperial gallons which are not the same.

37mpg seems vey high

Good write up and nice alternative for a 22 year old. I did not expect another person in their 20s to be driving one around, especially considering you have the same name as me and your Scottish! Difference is you are lucky enough to own it. I only get to look after it.

The mpg on these is pretty good. Always surprises me when I see US 31mpg in the Vette whereas my Focus ST would be getting 23mpg at the same speed, on the same journey, with A/C on. They do get thirsty when pushed however. 15mpg is easily achieved when hooning!

I had my first Vette (94 C4) at 26. Albeit in the US where they are a little easier to afford/run. I can definitely see myself owning a Vette of some description for many years to come, simply because you just cannot match the all-round performance for the money. I have now had the C5Z06 for nearly 7 years, imported after 1year of ownership in the US.

Greater than 30mpg is perfectly attainable on a run. My Z06 can also easily do less than 10mpg on a track. Think I saw about 7mpg from a short session at maximum attack. I have also done a track day (at Bedford) and driven home to Warwickshire and seen the mpg recover back to the low 20's.

I once got 35mpg from my 462hp supercharged Mustang on a long loping motorway run.

Great read. I've had a P ride on UK roads in one of these. My sons Grandfathers brother (still with me?) had a silver one. We litereally had kids on bikes chsing us down the street asking for him to rev it. It's a real event car over here. I'm not sure if it's because they are pretty rare in the UK but I'd be worried leaving it parked up in public. It does draw lots of attention.

He swapped if for a 996 C2. He said the Porsche was a sharper tool to drive but it lacked the drama and soundtrack of the Vette. He's fixed that now by getting a Maserati GranTurismo.

Awesome car, love how you just went for the most insane car you could afford insurance on hehe

37mpg is really surprising from such a huge engine, I struggle to get 30mpg in a 2 litre turbo! Wouldn't like to think I was driving it around here though, too many narrow roads hehe

Hitting 37mpg by resetting it whilst cruising at 70mph is NOT the same as averaging it.

My LS1 Monaro could hit 34mpg but averaged 14.

My LS2 RX7 likewise.

Depends what you mean by average. Average for the journey is quite possible. Average as in mean or mode average for the car in general, no probably not.

What's it like - honestly - with LHD? That really would put me off, although I've never even driven a LHD car!
