That remains a mystery on most modern cars, not just saloons, but even more blatantly estates. It is absolutely ridiculous how small the boot space has gotten in most estates.
Not sure that's true.

I have an E61 5 series, and the new F31 3 series has the same size boot. I measured it. I don't remember my E61 being any smaller than my E39 Touring either.

Likewise the luggage area of my V70 is as big as always...

P.s. Back on topic have BMW got the 4 Series Convertible in dealerships yet?

Ultimately in every day driving for an owner who's not going to go to a circuit why not have a convertible, and if you are going to get a convertible nothing better than a folding tin top BM.

I'm looking forward to driving this new one.
Because a convertible flexes like hell even at fairly low speed on the average British B-road - and the E93 is no exception, unless you keep the top up (in which case, why wouldn't you have the stiffer and more handsome E92?).
I've driven a lot of convertibles and the e93 is as good as they get imo I had one for a couple of days whilst my e92 was getting a new clutch and will probably be swaping the e92 for a an e93 335i or M3 for the summer.

Contrary to what some think the folding roof ads very very little to the rigidity.
e93 top convertible but if rigidity is what you're after then get a coupe, I found in my regular commute over speed bumps pot holes at all speeds the e93 is little different to an e92 on the limits yes there is some flex but it really is only noticed in extreme situations ie very heavy pot hole impacts or on full acceleration cornering and hitting a hole otherwise it's vary acceptable.

Of course the e93 has some flex, it has no roof. However it's far from flexes like hell.

I bow to your superior experience of having a passenger ride in an M3, once. I've only driven about 15'000 miles in my 325. Maybe they only fit the stiffening kit to the lower cars in the range rolleyes
If you can't feel that thing flex, either you're lucky with your roads or you have no awareness of physics at work... the one I rode in felt very wobbly over the horrendously potholed and off-camber B-roads round here.

I've no idea of volumes or whatever but it's down to shape. Quite simply - my bike fits in my E39. It doesn't in an F11.
