I saw this as an unnecessary aggressive overtake at the end of the slip road.

The drivers reaction was probably uncalled for, but understandable.

The coppers attitude was appalling, if his 4 week course is so great, then he should not have been there, it was very easily avoidable and predictable.
Indeed. After his 'driver training', I'd have expected the policeman to have a better understanding of anticipation and acting accordingly.

Short sliproad going from two lanes to one with him trying to nip through on the outside was only going to go one way.

The fact he went through the whole charade knowing he was on camera suggests he genuinely felt himself in the right and beyond criticism. I wonder how often this occurs on a day to day basis with other 'innocent' members of the public.

The Volvo driver was (imo) quite within his rights to argue back over the policeman's manoeuvre however that was only going to end in a attitude test fail. I also agree with the Volvo driver that if the policeman wanted to 'make progress' he should have stuck on the blues and twos.

Fair enough, book the chap for the coffee beans but careless driving? bks.

He was angry and I'm pretty sure his ego had been damaged because the Volvo driver dissed him. Maybe he knew he was in the wrong but it'd got so far along he couldn't back out. So yes, maybe the camera did have some influence.
This he was driving aggressively and fked up. If it ended there no problem, we all make mistakes. However his reaction after the other driver took exception is a clearly shifting the blame and abuse of office.

I want to know why there was a jump cut in the video with a few second of video removed.

Coppers made themselves look a disgrace last night. Good to see them spending time waiting outside nando's in a busy pedestrian area to wait for a lad and his mum in a car thats "too low", Ok im not a massive fan of cars that look like that but surely there's a better way for them to spend their time?

Copper cut up the volvo drivers inside then got arsey about it, how many of us would have more aggresively "shut the door" on what looks like a rep driving like an arse? I cant remember the exact comment but it was along the lines of if I want to justify myself I'll say i was doing this!

I think if I was in charge of PR at a Police Force I would want ultimate editorial control over these programs. I agree that this did not come across well for the BiB.

IMO he did not give enough space to the Volvo driver before the overtake and really should have anticipated him coming across, intentionally or otherwise. The BiB should have accepted that his driving may have been construed as aggressive to joe blogs and let the hand gesture slide. IMO it didn't necessitate a stop on the Volvo and presumably affected his duties that he was apparently in a hurry for.

If he was genuinely in a hurry, then this situation would have been completely avoided had he been using blues.

Edit: Re clip above, it's at 35 mins in.

I've yet to see it? Was he playing up for the cameras?
Surely they don't ever do that? It's real and authentic and gritty right?

I mean, ESPECIALLY that Adam Tole (sp?) character who used to be on. He never, ever played up as Billy Big bks to both the camera and to MoPs, did he…

(Although I think he was on one of the other programs, maybe the BBC one?)

ETA: just watched the clip, although I couldn't face watching all the roadside discussion as it was just painful - anyway, my view, if you look at the white lines on the slip road, they clearly end, i.e. the two lanes are converging, and the copper went for the overtake having left it too late. I don't think the Volvo particularly swerved in front, he just took an assertive stance on the lane merge rather than be forced to brake. If it had been a marked car and/or under blues & twos, very different, move out of the way if you can, but that copper was just driving like a tit, having already stated that he was only heading to carry out a routine check on a vehicle - so, no emergency, no stated requirement to make up ground. Volvo man has valid grounds for complaint IMO, and only let himself down with the gesture.

And another thing hehe - wonder whether the copper would have bothered stopping him if he didn't have the camera crew on board?

I thought the policeman was in the wrong. He booted it far to quickly prior to joining the carriageway. If he had been a little slower he could have joined behind the Volvo, then booted it and joined lane 2 to overtake.

The hand gestures didn't exactly help the guy in the Volvo though.

Glad others have seen this episode too. Granted the driver did give the officer the beans but it wasn't without being provoked by the coppers aggresive driving.

Officer was clearly on a power trip for being "shown up" on TV but the careless driving charge? please.

Copper shocked the ponderous Volvo driver, nobody was hurt, Copper spat his dummy out.

There was no justification for the way he approached the dual carriageway at speed, and if he was in such a hurry why did he have to pull the motorist?

Anyone that does that would lose the moral high ground, dangerous driving is bad. What the chap in the Volvo did was what lots of us do, momentarily not concentrating and probably not expecting anyone to be overtaking at that point.

I can't believe they have to do a four week course just to learn how to turn on the Blue Lights hehe

Or is it a four week course on how to be a traffic cop confused thats not very long to become the best and safest drivers on the road.....

I instantly thought the same thing when I watched this last night. Anyone else hear them call a Polo GTI a Golf? They get their facts wrong occasionally, maybe I'm being pedantic mind. They once quoted the E60 530D touring performance numbers and I'm sure it was a bit made up. (Under 6 seconds, do they remap them or something?)

Glad to see this being discussed. It is always hard to comment if you were not there - but.. going by what I saw I also thought the officer was a bit out of order.

The programme is good entertainment but does not always - IMO anyway, show the roads police in a good light. I've seen a few instances of what looked to me like rather vindictive and unprofessional behaviour.

That said, some of those featured have come across as throughly decent and very professional. I guess you get all sorts in the police, just like any other walk of life.

I'm just glad they aren't driving the Impreza or Evo so we don't get reminded that they're rally cars with 400bhp every 5 minutes
